Lady Gaga and the Born This Way Foundation have teamed up with young people all over the world to create Channel Kindness, a book that details stories of kindness, bravery, and resilience.
Channel Kindness describes the authors as a diverse group of young changemakers. The authors are contributors to Born This Way Foundation’s Channel Kindness program, which seeks to uplift youth voices by providing a storytelling platform for first-person accounts of everyday acts of bravery and kindness.
The book is filled with stories from its young authors along with personal notes from Lady Gaga herself, co-founder of the Born This Way Foundation.
Gaga has always used her platform to highlight the importance of mental health and kindness. The singer uses the phrase "Be Kind" to influence her audiences to practice as she preaches both to others and to oneself. So it comes to no surprise that Gaga's book release is based on spreading the message of kindness.

Gaga celebrated the release of her book on Twitter: "OMG my charity @BTWFoundation book IS OUT TODAY! It’s called #ChannelKindness, it’s filled with beautiful stories about bravery, the power of kindness and importance of mental health! We love you! Enjoy this masterpiece made by young people for all people!"

Lady Gaga was seen shopping at a Sephora before meeting up with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, in the Upper West Side of New York City on September 21st.

She was wearing a pink cropped hoodie with matching shorts, a long sleek jacket, and edgy boots. She topped off the look with a mask. Her mother opted for a more toned down ensemble with a classic Gucci purse.

This sighting was seen after her CBS Sunday Morning interview where she spoke about the importance of wearing masks, her mental health, and accepting parts of herself.

The family bonding moment took place right before the duo were set to promote their new book, Channel Kindness.

Lady Gaga invited CBS Sunday Morning into her home for a personal interview where she spoke about masks, mental health, feeling like an object, and learning to love herself again.
She started off the interview by telling correspondent Lee Cowan that wearing a mask is an act of kindness."You're kind right now; you're wearing a mask in this interview with me. We have cameras around us. Everybody here has a mask on. These are kind acts!"
Cowan agreed, especially seeing as they were guests in her home and it was the respectful thing to do. Her home, which was owned by the late Frank Zappa, was where she recorded her sixth studio album, Chromatica.

While Chromatica may be a return to Lady Gaga's dance roots, the album is more so a diary where she spills all of her deep and dark secrets.
"There's not one song on that record that's not true, not one."
When asked about the darkness she experienced when writing the album, Cowan was told, "I mean, honestly, Lee, I just totally gave up on myself. I hated being famous. I hated being a star. I felt exhausted and used up."
She goes on to state that it isn't the fans or even the industry that got her to that point, but the entity she spent so many years building. "Lady Gaga" had long overshadowed "Stefani Germanotta" to the point that she felt her old self was left behind.
She expressed hatred for the piano in her home. It is the same piano she has had for years and wrote multiple songs on; however, it was also her downfall.
"I don't know how to explain it. But I went from looking at this piano, and thinking, You ruined my life. During that time, I was like, You made me Lady Gaga. My biggest enemy is Lady Gaga. That's what I was thinking: My biggest enemy is her.  What did you do? [...] You can't go to the grocery store now. If you go to dinner with your family, somebody comes to the table, you can't have a dinner with your family without it being about you. It's always about you. All the time it's about you. And your outfits. Look at your outfits!"

The interview continued on to a darker time in Lady Gaga's life: The Joanne era. While the album was at the top of the charts, she felt at rock bottom.
"I was writing about his trauma from my father's life that became my trauma in a lot of ways, and I thought I could fix my dad. [...] I could never fix that."
Not only was she hit with the realization that she could never help her father heal from the hurt of his sister dying at a young age, but also told the world about her own sexual assault and past traumas that she was attempting to heal from.
"It's not always easy, if you have mental issues, to let other people see. I used to show. I used to self-harm. I used to say, 'Look. I cut myself. See, I'm hurt,' 'cause I didn't think anyone could see. 'Cause mental health, it's invisible."
Even with her friends' and family's support, Lady Gaga told CBS Sunday Morning that she felt as if her life was over, that she felt no reason to live, and that she expressed suicidal ideations every day. She admitted in the interview that she had to be watched in her house for years to ensure her safety.
Cowan learned in the interview that her mental health also has an effect on her physical health. The lyrics, "Pop a 911..." reference the medication she uses for panic attacks. She told him the attacks can be triggered by objectification; she experiences panic and body pain because she doesn't feel like a human being when a person is shoving a cellphone in her face for photos.
However, through all of the mental and physical pain she experiences, she told Cowan that she simply cannot stop doing what she does.
"Turns out, even if I don't wanna be alive, I still know how to write a song!"
The interview then took a turn to talk about her collaborations with Ariana Grande and Elton John.

"You know how hard it is to make a female friend in this business? Come on, in this business, having a female friend's like watching a pig fly," Lady Gaga said of Grande.
Her friendship with Elton John also helps her when she's feeling down and self-isolating. But she admitted to the harms of isolating for too long. She told Cowan that she now feels she is doing better. "I coulda done without the last two-and-a-half years of my life! [laughs] I coulda done without that. But you know what? It happened."
Cowan then took that time to speak about the new book, Channel Kindness-- a collection of stories sent to her by young adults about the power of kindness in the midst of adversity.
She finished off the interview by insinuating she is kinder to herself now, and that "Lady Gaga" and "Stefani Germanotta" have accepted what can and cannot be changed.
"I don't hate Lady Gaga anymore. I found a way to love myself again, even when I thought that was never gonna happen."

You can read and watch the full interview on the CBS website.

Lady Gaga broke down twitter after she quoted ''A POP MUSIC EMERGENCY IS UNDERWAY 911'', anticipating the release of ''911'' as the third official single from ''Chromatica''. This morning, Gaga made us wake in a white dessert and walk through her mind. An eye-dropping story filled with symbolism, colors, and fashion with a shocking twist a the end
“911” is Chromatica’s 8th track. Gaga first talked about the song back in May, on her interview with Zane Lowe for Beats1. The song talks about an antipsychotic the singer takes because she can’t control her brain.
”I have incredible doctors, they do not give me any kind of narcotic, when I sing Pop a 911, it’s not an opioid, I don’t take any pain medication because it’s not healthy for me.”
Back in July, Lady Gaga reunited with Tarsem Singh, director, to discuss the vision for the video. “I made it not about blood loss, but about the opposite of being high on drugs: Basically, a lack of a drug. You don’t have your pills, so you’re not on your medication.” said Singh to Entertainment Weekly.
Described as a short film, “911” features some references from classic movies such as ‘The Color of Pomegranates’ (Sergei Parajanov) and ‘8 ½’ (Federico Fellini). The director revealed that he realized how personal this song was for her after she started to cry after hearing his concept. “She moved heaven and earth for me.”

Lady Gaga unveiled her insights into the birthing process of Chromatica in Billboard's September 2020 issue: constant dread of existence, countless missed opportunities, as well as worries about the world and its social climate. She also discussed mental healing, the pandemic, and injustices were all related to the release of her sixth studio album.

She revealed that a part of the team lived with her at her Hollywood Hills house during quarantine,“Somebody’d go grocery shopping, the rest of us would clean the vegetables, then somebody would cook”.  This type of living was a catalyst to her natural hospitality and kindness.“I run my team like a family [...] I don’t run it like a staff."
But that kindness characterizing her didn't always apply. When it came to herself, she put up a wall against people trying to help her, pulling the “Lady Gaga card” on them. “I’m Lady Gaga, you don’t understand what it feels like [...] I’m so sad, I don’t even know why anymore, why are you making me talk about it?" She recently worked this out in therapy, and her super-producer/friend, Bloodpop, also attempted to help as best as he could. He would have her work on music as an outlet, “Feeling creative always makes [Gaga] happy, so let’s put some studio time on the calendar.”
While Chromatica helped Lady Gaga create an emotional outlet, the album also called her back to her roots. She didn't know at the time that her first hit single,Just Dance, would be the blueprint for her 2020 comeback to pure pop. And more than ever, she encouraged us to dance through our pain and enjoy every personal victory.
“If there’s one glimmer inside you, celebrate it. When you find another one, celebrate it. One more? Call a friend: ‘I did this today. I’m winning."
Plastic Doll, the 9th track on Chromatica, was another callback to her pop roots. The song includes the infamous stuttering vocals and "ooh la la" flourishes she is known for, particularly in older records such as Bad Romance. She explained that she often conversed with her old self when writing a song, “I would cry and go, “There it is — hi! How’s it going? Why do you got to hide?” This practice resulted in the creation of Plastic Doll and many other tracks off the album.

The interview continued on to more schedule-oriented difficulties, fueled by the worldwide pandemic and COVID-19. Her manager, Bobby Campbell, planned Chromatica’s campaign for over a year and that, “All these things were just evaporating before [the team’s] eyes." John Janick, CEO of Interscope, called the campaign, “One of the best rollouts planned for an album, ever."
The album promotion campaign was originally going to be huge, "it was going to feel like a “blockbuster movie coming out," according to Campbell. A surprise performance of Rain on Me was scheduled at a drive-through drag show in Los Angeles; however, the event was cancelled for fear the audience would not abide by the CDC Guidelines of social distancing once they realized who was on stage, such as what happened at a Chainsmoker's concert. The promotion for the album underwent multiple change of plans.“Plan B became Plan C, became Plan D."
In the current climate, Lady Gaga claimed she doesn’t see herself performing at a concert. She has not even started planning for the Chromatica Ball, a mini tour containing six dates in select cities. “I’m going to learn so much from now until the day somebody tells me you effectively can social distance at a stadium,” she said. "I’m going to build a show that’s tailor-made with kindness. [...] we won’t be six feet apart forever.”

Throughout this interview, Lady Gaga gave hints on why social justice, kindness, and equality are so important for her, even though she is aware she has more efforts to make.“When you’re born in this country, we all drink the poison that is white supremacy. I am in the process of learning and unlearning things I’ve been taught my whole life.”
She also discussed activism and the role she believed people should play in it. “Do I think there’s such a thing as performative activism? Yes. Do I think there’s been true activism that’s been very important and needed? Yes. Do I believe Black lives matter? Yes. Do I believe this is going to get louder? Yes. Do I believe it should? Yes.”
Over the course of summer 2020, she gave control of her Instagram stories to Black Lives Matter activists. She also commissioned Honey Dijon, a trans woman of color, to remix Free Woman--an anthem about owning the dancefloor you fought for. “All music is Black music. That’s just a fact.”

Lady Gaga shot the video for 911 back in August, and she vividly remembered feeling truly alive. Filming the video required her to revisit the dark place she was in when she wrote the song, “Freedom for me is when I can go to the darkest part of my heart, visit things that are hard and then leave them behind."

In a recent interview with Spanish magazine Hola!, stylist Marta del Rio spoke about Lady Gaga, the fashion at MTV's Video Music Awards, and her own journey from Marbella to New York.
Hola! Magazine: Your personal look seems perfect to dress Lady Gaga. You even have the same platform boots!
Marta del Rio: Gaga is very amused by the way I dress and sometimes asks me to loan her things. Boots are my favorite shoes because they are gigantic and very tall but they don't bother like heels do. In one of the photo shoots we were doing together, I loaned her the shoes she was wearing. She liked them so much that I gave them to her so she could have a pair of high, comfortable shoes. From then on, she started wearing them all the time and we laughed a lot when we both got to the set qith the same shoes. "Let's be the same," we said to ourselves.
H: In your opinion, what makes Lady Gaga different from the others?
M: For me, something super special about her is how authentic she is, her commitment to work, and the respect for all the people she collaborates with. No one is too small or too unknown to her. And she is a hard worker like no one. She is a non-stop of energy, creativity, and kindness. I am very lucky to be able to work with her and the Haus Of Gaga so often and closely.
H: What is it like to work for a singer of such international stature?
M: It is extremely stimulating as a creative experience. No project is 100% defined at the beginning. There are always changes, adaptations, and evolutions in each project based on what each creative of the Haus of Gaga team brings. At the end of the day, all we do is a pure collaboration between a group of artists with different talents.
H: I get the feeling thaat a massive production is needed every day.
M: At the production level, it really depends more on the type of project. When we do sessions for Haus Laboratories, they’re more simpler and traditional because it’s a smaller company. When it comes to a music video such as Rain On Me, we’re talking about large productions where there can be 100 people on set including the artists, the direction team, dancers, make-up artists, costumes, hairdressers, production... Imagine that for Rain On Me, only for my wardrobe team there were already ten people.
H: Who came up with the outfits that dazzled the VMA’s?
M: The looks were created in collaboration with Nicola Formichetti, the artistic director, as well as Lady Gaga herself and me. But we also spoke with the rest of the Haus of Gaga team and exchanged ideas and opinions. The final look is always a head-to-toe collaboration that not only includes the clothes but also the makeup, manicure, and hair. Once it’s created, we will need more people to finish it completely, depending on what it will be used for. In the case of a performance, Gaga's tour team is involved to adapt the costumes for a live show. For example, we add zippers on the extremities so that you can quickly change an outfit to the next. We also cover some pieces with Swarovski crystals to give it more shine on stage, ans we sew the pockets where the microphone transmitter is kept… Details that are only considered when a live performance is being done.
H: How many people were needed to create all the looks of the VMA’s?
M: In the case of the VMA's, there are many people involved: from designers to public relations of some brands; the team of assistants who help us transport and assemble the costumes; the seamstresses of the set ... In addition, for an event like this, we work very closely with designers to create unique pieces. On top of that, if we add that we made nine complete wardrobe changes, we ended up working in tandem with more than 18 different teams of designers since all the looks combined a mask, a suit, and in some cases, jackets or capes, and jewelry.
H: The most commented thing has been the masks. Whose idea was it?
M: From the beginning, there was no doubt that we would use them for several reasons: one, because right now it is an accessory that is being used and it gave us the possibility to play and explore something that people are seeing a lot. Two, for the message that this would send. For her part, Gaga feels responsible for setting an example and she also has a lot of respect for the body of health workers who take risks every day for us.
H: Which is your favorite design of the six?
M: They are all very special to me, but if I had to highlight one, it would surely be the mask created by Smooth Technology x Diego Montoya. The idea for this mask was to be reactive to Gaga's voice. We knew that she was going to wear a mask all the time and we would not see her sing, but she wanted to somehow continue to give the vision that she was singing. So I decided to find a team of sound and lighting engineers who could create something that would react to her voice. The mask actually has a small microphone inside that captures the tone and creates the sound waves on the mask screen. This can be controlled remotely to change the reaction of the frequency as well as to activate and deactivate the microphone and control the light that it emits.
How does a designer from Marbella become Lady Gaga’s stylist?
M: It is true that I am from Marbella, but I have been traveling and living in different countries such as Switzerland, Italy, England, Japan and the United States since I was 15 years old. Although I started the Fashion School in Rome, I got a transfer and a scholarship to a fashion university in New York in the middle of the second year. When I graduated, I contacted a small fashion company called Nicopanda. It seemed to me that the style and ethos of the company was in line with who I was. The creator of this brand, Nicola Formichetti, was a creator that I admired a lot for his work with Vogue Homme Japan and Dazed & Confused.
H: The rest, as they say, is history.
M: Yes. Being a small company, we all did a bit of everything. When I had been there for a year, Nicola offered to help me with his creative agency, Studio Formichetti. I started to collaborate on small projects and go to photo shoots with him from time to time. We work very well together because we have a very similar background and style. I started helping him with all kinds of projects until I became his right hand man. I have gone from being an intern to a designer, to a creative assistant, and finally, to a stylist and costume director. We have been working together for more than five years.

And so I’ve been thinking of all the ways that I can be someone that contributes to the society and the world. I’m super-thrilled (and) excited to have this show and this opportunity to play an incredible mix of music every week.”

Lady Gaga and Paper Magazine threw a Chromatica "Fundrager" on Zoom where all proceeds went to the Marsha P Johnson Institute, an organization that protects and defends the human rights of black transgender people.
This organization was one of many that Lady Gaga spoke about in a recent Twitter thread in her support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The fundraiser, hosted by Zach Campbell and Brendan Jordan, highlighted the talents of many performers and artists such as Purple Disco Machine, Ralphi Rosario, Doss, Dee Diggs, Anz, Juku, and The Ugly One. Attendees in the Zoom call could enter with a code. Various fans entered as well as members of the Haus of Gaga.

Lady Gaga first made an appearance with a custom studded Chromatica face mask. She was surrounded by an outstanding wardrobe as she danced and did her own hair and makeup.
She later appeared and danced in a Manzanares fringe bodysuit as a Sceiße remix which transitioned into G.U.Y. played in the background. She brought out a laptop and struck various poses as she continued to enjoy the dance party. She eventually stopped to speak about the event:
"Hi everybody. I just want to thank you so much for coming. I love you, I love you so much! Thank you, Marsha P. Johnson, for being such an inspiration to so many people." She went on to thank the audience, "Thank you so much for being here tonight. You guys are having so much fun together in the spirit of something so kind and beautiful. I f*cking love you. Please take care of each other tonight."
She then commemorated Campbell and Jordan for hosting the event, as well as quipped about a quick outfit change.
"I love seeing you all smiling and dancing, so back to the music because I'm going to do a quick change! Girl, my lace front is about to fall the damn fool off! I did this sh*t myself!"

Lady Gaga then returned in a pink outfit from the BCALLA Swim with the Tide but Faster Collection to once again praise the performers, hosts, and the cause. She ended her appearance for the event by teasing she was returning to the world of Chromatica.

Unfortunately the livestream has been taken down from Youtube, but you can still rewatch the full event on PAPER MAGAZINE.
