  1. Kelly Clarkson and Garth Brooks had an impromptu jam session to "Shallow" on her talkshow, The Kelly Clarkson Show. Prior to the performance, Clarkson spoke about how Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, had recently covered the song themselves. Brooks stated an audience member requested he and his wife sing it, and he felt enticed to do it. His wife had seen the movie, and while he had not, he said the opening chords drew him in, "That's every country song and James Taylor kind of mixed." "I love it," Clarkson said in return. Brooks then invited Clarkson to try their hand at performing the song together (2:15): This is not the first time Clarkson has praised and covered Lady Gaga. Throughout the past decade, Clarkson has been known to sing various Gaga songs at her concerts such as "You and I," "Bad Romance," and now most recently "Shallow."
  2. In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Billie Eilish name dropped a handful of celebrities that have told her she could reach out to them if she ever needed anything, Lady Gaga being one of them. She specifically recalled Lady Gaga having a similar start as her and knowing the good and the bad parts of the industry. She said, "Gaga has said it to me before [about reaching out]. It's nice to hear from people that, like, have gone through this and know what it's like, and went through the sh*t of it and went through the amazing parts of it. It's nice to hear." Lady G7033629847961Gaga revealed earlier this year in an interview with Apple Music that she reached out to Eilish because the younger woman's introduction to the industry mirrored her own. "I wrote her a note. For me, itā€™s healing because it hurt me that I didnā€™t get that. Iā€™m going to be that for someone else." She continued on to say, "I really hope that young female artists ā€“ or young artists of any gender identity or sexual identity ā€“ will know that I am rooting for them." This interview with Vanity Fair showcases that Lady Gaga continues to show her support for upcoming new artists in the business.
  3. Ten years ago, Lady Gaga and fashion photographer and founder/director of SHOWStudio, Nick Knight, created the concept of Jo Calderone for Vogue Japan. The Haus of Gaga would continue to tease the true identity of Calderone until his introduction to the world at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Knight celebrated the anniversary of this creation by going behind the scenes with this exclusive fashion video and many never-seen before pictures from the set. "@ladygaga's alter-ego Joe Calderone made their first public appearance in my editorial under the working title ā€˜Elegant Mechanicsā€™ in 2010, wearing the likes of @emporioarmani, @prada and @givenchyofficial.ā € ā € Filmed in the infamous black basement room in the Bruton Place SHOWstudio in Londonā€™s Mayfair Gaga wanted to give a 100% authentic performance as a man . As part of this we set up a gentlemanā€™s urinal compleĢ€te with plumbing, which Joe Calderone used during the film . Gaga later signed the white urinal and it still has pride of place at the current SHOWstudio. This is the first time this fashion film has appeared online. Previously only showcased in the basement of SHOWstudio's old premises at Bruton Place, we projected it on the very wall against which it was shot .The film was made while shooting Gaga/Calderone for @voguejapan, and when Gagaā€™s P.A showed up on set, she stood unaware next to Joe Calderon and looking increasingly worried, she asked- where is Gaga? Has anyone seen Gaga ????" You can find more about the shootings on ShowStudio website. Click on the pictures below to open the gallery. 4. Lady Gaga and 911 director, Tarsem Singh, go behind the scenes in this exclusive interview for LG OLED TV. "I'm so thrilled to see how everyone has responded to the "911" short film. Its meaning is extremely special to me and important in my life," Lady Gaga explains in the video. She goes on to say, "To celebrate our collaboration, Tarsem and I created an exclusive visual experience which will air exclusively on LG OLED TVs. This is an alternate version of the "911" short film made to push the boundaries of the visuals and truly deliver them the way we envisioned them." The three minute clip then dives into the questions for the director. Q: "What drew you to the Lady Gaga 911 film?" TS: "I have just 3 or 4 stupid ideas that I've had since college. I just stick by them, and sometimes when a song comes along, you go, "Alright it fits." Or it doesn't. Sometimes it takes 2 years, and in this particular case, it's taken 28 years. When I heard the song, the thing that clicked it was [the fact] they sent that classical piece [Chromatica II] up ahead with it. Because that classical piece was there, I knew what the front would be. So when she explained to me what the song was about, I had a periphery of an idea. And once she told me, I said, "Okay, I can tailor it even more, [...] it'll just be about somebody who didn't take their medication and ended up causing an accident, or was in an accident, and has taken all the things around them and abstracted them in a format that kind of doesn't give it away until you realize the 3rd time." When I told it to her, she said there can be no other idea that is the music video. So I got up and I kind of did a victory lap. When I sat back down in the chair, I realized that she was crying. And then I kind of realized that it was a really personal thing for her. It's their song, you're Interpreting it in a particular way." Q: "Why is it important to see it as you intended?" TS: "I'm Indian so I tend to like color. It's very important that you know all the colors and what it reflects because if you watch it on a bad thing you'll judge it with that. For me, I wish everybody could watch it on an LG TV. If you can and want to see what the filmmaker intended, if you want to see how crushed the blacks are, and how the contrast ratio is perfect, I would say watch it on that." Q: "Can you elaborate on the ending?" TS: I thought let's see a billboard, and the billboard affects them. It says Life's Good. This is the person on the brink of, "shall I let go? Shall I die?" And she sees this and she's reacting to Life's Good, and she goes, "I don't want to die." Lady Gaga ends the exclusive footage with, "the LG OLED TVs and this special version of the film will allow you to see the vibrant colors, dramatic blacks, infinite contrast, and other details of our film unlike anywhere else. We hope you enjoy. Much love."

Lady Gaga, Miley [Cyrus]. I admire these women.ā€ When asked who inspires her, Minogue said, "I think Lady Gaga is a great example. She is just a powerhouse. She seems fearless; I'm sure she's not. 8. Joe Biden is declared the 46th President of the United States, with Kamala Harris as his Vice President. With 290 Electoral votes confirmed and another 16 pending, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris beat Donald Trump and Mike Pence in the 2020 Presidential Election. Biden and Harris managed flip a handful of states that looked as if they were in Trump's favor. The number of absentee and mail-in ballots were so large that they took days to count, but they were ultimately what led Biden and Harris to victory. Kamala Harris is not only the first female Vice President, but also the first woman of color to hold that title. After a long four days of waiting for results, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were declared the winners. Multiple celebrations happened worldwide, in real life and online. Lady Gaga tweeted: Lady Gaga has shown her support for Joe Biden over the years starting with the Obama administration. She and Joe Biden teamed up in 2017 for the Its On Us Campaign where they urged action against sexual assault. She had recently publicly endorsed his run for president on multiple platforms. She also spoke and performed at his rally in Pittsburgh. Joe Biden's victory is also a victory for the LGBT+ community, for which Lady Gaga is a part of and an advocate. In his first speech as President Elect, he stated he was thankful and proud of the coalition that helped elect him, including the LGBT+ community. He is the first president in history to mention the LGBT+ community in a victory speech. Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
  9. Lady Gaga took to the stage the night before the 2020 US election to show support for Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden. The rally took place at the Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She appeared on stage with a custom studded mask that said VOTE. "If you're here, you probably already believe in Joe Biden. I know I believe in Joe Biden," she said to the crowd. "He's the right choice over Donald Trump. You don't need me to tell you why." "You have all the evidence you need to look at this choice and know in your heart without any doubt that Joe Biden is the right choice." Lady Gaga continued her speech by urging the American people who have not voted yet to make a plan. "If you believe in Joe Biden and you haven't already voted, make a plan to get to the polls tomorrow. [...] Cast a vote for your country to do whatever it takes to stand up for what you believe in. [...[ This is your vote and we need all of you to vote." She warned the crowd about feeling too comfortable with mail-in votes and absentee ballots. She alluded to 2016 how people were too lax and playing it safe. "It's tempting to feel comfortable and sit back but now is not the time to feel confident and sit back." She then called out Donald Trump's past behavior and ended her speech with, ā€œNo matter how you identify, now is your chance to vote against Donald Trump. A man who believes his fame gives him the right to grab one of your daughters or sisters or mothers or wives by any part of their body. Vote for Joe Biden.ā€ After her speech, she took to Twitter to address Donald Trump personally by sending him a video of what she said. The President of the United States had earlier used his platforms and last campaign rally to accuse Lady Gaga of being a poor choice of celebrity endorsement for Pennsylvanians. However, multiple people online showed their support for her, and she was trending worldwide on the website. She came back to the stage one hour later wearing a white "Joe Biden" crewneck to perform two songs. She started with Shallow. "This is not political, this is not about red or blue. This is about heart." She then performed You and I, where she called Joe Biden her new, "Pennsylvanian Guy." She ended her appearance by referencing the negative attention from conservatives she received in her online endorsement photo. "I will not be told what I can and cannot wear to endorse our future president." After her speech, she welcomed Joe Biden onto the stage. He entered to Lady Gaga's The Edge of Glory and introduced himself to the crowd as her friend. This was the last rally the presidential candidate held before the 2020 US Elections. If you are registered to vote in the United States and have not yet voted, be sure your voice is heard November 3, 2020. PERFORMANCE

  11. Lady Gaga was seen shopping at a Sephora before meeting up with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, in the Upper West Side of New York City on September 21st. She was wearing a pink cropped hoodie with matching shorts, a long sleek jacket, and edgy boots. She topped off the look with a mask. Her mother opted for a more toned down ensemble with a classic Gucci purse. This sighting was seen after her CBS Sunday Morning interview where she spoke about the importance of wearing masks, her mental health, and accepting parts of herself. The family bonding moment took place right before the duo were set to promote their new book, Channel Kindness.
  12. Lady Gaga invited CBS Sunday Morning into her home for a personal interview where she spoke about masks, mental health, feeling like an object, and learning to love herself again. She started off the interview by telling correspondent Lee Cowan that wearing a mask is an act of kindness."You're kind right now; you're wearing a mask in this interview with me. We have cameras around us. Everybody here has a mask on. These are kind acts!" Cowan agreed, especially seeing as they were guests in her home and it was the respectful thing to do. Her home, which was owned by the late Frank Zappa, was where she recorded her sixth studio album, Chromatica. While Chromatica may be a return to Lady Gaga's dance roots, the album is more so a diary where she spills all of her deep and dark secrets. "There's not one song on that record that's not true, not one." When asked about the darkness she experienced when writing the album, Cowan was told, "I mean, honestly, Lee, I just totally gave up on myself. I hated being famous. I hated being a star. I felt exhausted and used up." She goes on to state that it isn't the fans or even the industry that got her to that point, but the entity she spent so many years building. "Lady Gaga" had long overshadowed "Stefani Germanotta" to the point that she felt her old self was left behind. She expressed hatred for the piano in her home. It is the same piano she has had for years and wrote multiple songs on; however, it was also her downfall. "I don't know how to explain it. But I went from looking at this piano, and thinking, You ruined my life. During that time, I was like, You made me Lady Gaga. My biggest enemy is Lady Gaga. That's what I was thinking: My biggest enemy is her. What did you do? [...] You can't go to the grocery store now. If you go to dinner with your family, somebody comes to the table, you can't have a dinner with your family without it being about you. It's always about you. All the time it's about you. And your outfits. Look at your outfits!" The interview continued on to a darker time in Lady Gaga's life: The Joanne era. While the album was at the top of the charts, she felt at rock bottom. "I was writing about his trauma from my father's life that became my trauma in a lot of ways, and I thought I could fix my dad. [...] I could never fix that." Not only was she hit with the realization that she could never help her father heal from the hurt of his sister dying at a young age, but also told the world about her own sexual assault and past traumas that she was attempting to heal from. "It's not always easy, if you have mental issues, to let other people see. I used to show. I used to self-harm. I used to say, 'Look. I cut myself. See, I'm hurt,' 'cause I didn't think anyone could see. 'Cause mental health, it's invisible." Even with her friends' and family's support, Lady Gaga told CBS Sunday Morning that she felt as if her life was over, that she felt no reason to live, and that she expressed suicidal ideations every day. She admitted in the interview that she had to be watched in her house for years to ensure her safety. Cowan learned in the interview that her mental health also has an effect on her physical health. The lyrics, "Pop a 911..." reference the medication she uses for panic attacks. She told him the attacks can be triggered by objectification; she experiences panic and body pain because she doesn't feel like a human being when a person is shoving a cellphone in her face for photos. However, through all of the mental and physical pain she experiences, she told Cowan that she simply cannot stop doing what she does. "Turns out, even if I don't wanna be alive, I still know how to write a song!" The interview then took a turn to talk about her collaborations with Ariana Grande and Elton John. "You know how hard it is to make a female friend in this business? Come on, in this business, having a female friend's like watching a pig fly," Lady Gaga said of Grande. Her friendship with Elton John also helps her when she's feeling down and self-isolating. But she admitted to the harms of isolating for too long. She told Cowan that she now feels she is doing better. "I coulda done without the last two-and-a-half years of my life! [laughs] I coulda done without that. But you know what? It happened." Cowan then took that time to speak about the new book, Channel Kindness-- a collection of stories sent to her by young adults about the power of kindness in the midst of adversity. She finished off the interview by insinuating she is kinder to herself now, and that "Lady Gaga" and "Stefani Germanotta" have accepted what can and cannot be changed. "I don't hate Lady Gaga anymore. I found a way to love myself again, even when I thought that was never gonna happen." You can read and watch the full interview on the CBS website.

  16. Lady Gaga and Paper Magazine threw a Chromatica "Fundrager" on Zoom where all proceeds went to the Marsha P Johnson Institute, an organization that protects and defends the human rights of black transgender people. This organization was one of many that Lady Gaga spoke about in a recent Twitter thread in her support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The fundraiser, hosted by Zach Campbell and Brendan Jordan, highlighted the talents of many performers and artists such as Purple Disco Machine, Ralphi Rosario, Doss, Dee Diggs, Anz, Juku, and The Ugly One. Attendees in the Zoom call could enter with a code. Various fans entered as well as members of the Haus of Gaga. Lady Gaga first made an appearance with a custom studded Chromatica face mask. She was surrounded by an outstanding wardrobe as she danced and did her own hair and makeup. She later appeared and danced in a Manzanares fringe bodysuit as a SceiƟe remix which transitioned into G.U.Y. played in the background. She brought out a laptop and struck various poses as she continued to enjoy the dance party. She eventually stopped to speak about the event: "Hi everybody. I just want to thank you so much for coming. I love you, I love you so much! Thank you, Marsha P. Johnson, for being such an inspiration to so many people." She went on to thank the audience, "Thank you so much for being here tonight. You guys are having so much fun together in the spirit of something so kind and beautiful. I f*cking love you. Please take care of each other tonight." She then commemorated Campbell and Jordan for hosting the event, as well as quipped about a quick outfit change. "I love seeing you all smiling and dancing, so back to the music because I'm going to do a quick change! Girl, my lace front is about to fall the damn fool off! I did this sh*t myself!" Lady Gaga then returned in a pink outfit from the BCALLA Swim with the Tide but Faster Collection to once again praise the performers, hosts, and the cause. She ended her appearance for the event by teasing she was returning to the world of Chromatica. Unfortunately the livestream has been taken down from Youtube, but you can still rewatch the full event on PAPER MAGAZINE. You can learn more about the organization and donate here. www.marshap.org
  17. Lady Gaga and her fiancĆ© Christian Carino have split, her rep confirms to PEOPLE. ā€œIt just didnā€™t work out. Relationships sometimes end,ā€ a source tells PEOPLE. ā€œThereā€™s no long dramatic story.ā€ Speculation arose when fans noticed that Gaga was not wearing her engagement ring at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, neither did she thank Carino in her acceptance speech after her song ā€œShallowā€ won the best pop duo or group performance prize. Carino did not attend the Grammys, even though he was by her side at various other events this awards season, including the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes, as sheā€™s made the rounds a various ceremonies for A Star is Born. On Valentineā€™s Day, instead of sharing photos with her fiancĆ©, the star revealed that sheā€™d had a permanent piece of A Star Is Born inked on her body. Gaga debuted a large tattoo on her spine that pays tribute to her role in the acclaimed musical-drama. ā€œHappy Valentineā€™s Day. A tattoo toast to ā€œla vie en roseā€ by the beautiful @winterstone my spinal cord is now a rose,ā€ Gaga wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the completed tattoo of an intricate outline of a single rose on a long stem with the words, ā€œla vie en roseā€ written in script beside it. She also got the musical notes ā€œGā€ and ā€œAā€ on sheet lines of sheet music tattooed onto the inside of her arm, spelling out her name. At Elleā€˜s 25th Annual Women in Hollywood Celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles in October 2018, honoree Gaga revealed her engagement to Carino by thanking ā€œmy fiancĆ© Christianā€ during her speech. PEOPLE exclusively confirmed Gaga and the talent agent, were dating in February 2017 after the couple were spotted getting affectionate at a Kings of Leon concert that year. Source
  18. Lady Gagaā€™s company, Ate My Heart Inc., is currently moving forward to secure a trademark for a new brand of cosmetics called ā€œHaus Beauty.ā€ While the singer already has a full haus with her Haus of Gaga creative team, Haus Beauty is seemingly an entirely new undertaking. Haus Beauty will apparently run the cosmetics gamut, from foundation, eyeliners, shadows and lipsticks to other products. The ā€œJoanneā€ star has been looking to diversify her portfolio lately, as she also has been trying to debut a line of signature wines inspired by her familyā€™s Italian restaurant. This article originally appears on The Blast.
  19. CBS's special "Elton John: Iā€™m Still Standing - A GRAMMYĀ®ļæ¼ Salute" aired tonight featuring performances from musicians including Lady Gaga, Kesha, Miley Cyrus and Shawn Mendes covering some of Elton John's most iconic hit songs. Lady Gaga's cover of 'Your Song' was praised by Elton John himself on his Twitter stating, "More than a friend, [Lady Gaga] is family to me. Get ready, this #EltonSalute performance of ā€˜Your Songā€™ will blow you away." Studio versions of the songs performed tonight have been compiled into an album titled 'Revamp: The Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin' which is now available on iTunes and all streaming services.
  20. Before the invasion of disco sticks and leotards, before Born This Way birthed a new breed of superfan and Joanne galloped away with the worldā€™s collective heart, the first chapter in the legend of Lady Gagaā€™s career rested on little more than a throwback beat and a wide-eyed girl with nothing to lose and only pop cultural domination to gain. Now, one decade after Gaga splashed onto the scene with her debut single ā€œJust Danceā€ (and ushered in a new era of glistening electro-pop on mainstream radio), EW caught up with its creators ā€” longtime Gaga producer RedOne and recording artist Akon, who helped launch Gagaā€™s career via his KonLive record label ā€” to celebrate the trackā€™s 10th birthday on April 8. Below, the pair dishes on the songwriting process that almost placed ā€œJust Danceā€ in the hands of other artists, why Akonā€™s smooth, featured vocals were replaced by newcomer Colby Oā€™Donisā€™ on the final version, and what the success of the song means to them. [EW contacted Gagaā€™s team for an interview, but a representative indicated she was unavailable to contribute to this article.] REDONE: At that time, I just did my first hit with Kat DeLuna called ā€œWhine Up.ā€ After that hit, I told my management that I wanted to work with established artists. But they called me and said, ā€œHey, we [want you to work with] this girlā€¦. Sheā€™s talented if you want to meet her for five minutes.ā€ā€¦. I met her outside of the Sony building in New York, and I liked the vibe I was getting! She was like, ā€œOh my God, I love ā€˜Whine Up!ā€™ā€ [Laughs]. In those five minutes, I felt like she was so special. And those five minutes turned into a few sessions. [Despite multiple attempts, EW could not reach Vincent Herbert for comment.] REDONE: We were talking about rock like Mƶtley CrĆ¼e, you know, ā€œGirls, girls, girls!ā€ but we needed ā€œBoys, boys, boys!ā€ insteadā€¦and that created the sounds for the whole album. For ā€œJust Dance,ā€ I wanted to do a rock song with big drums but instead of guitars, itā€™s synths. Thatā€™s what ā€œJust Danceā€ is! The opening [synths] are like a guitar chordā€¦. [I began] taking her to every session I had with other artists, too, but as a writer. And every artist got scared of her and asked me to not bring her again. I remember telling her, ā€œGaga, youā€™re an incredible artist and they feel your energy!ā€ She was so creative, giving them ideas about how to dress and how to behave, and they started feeling so small. And Gaga started crying, like, ā€œI just want to help them!ā€ I said, ā€œYes, but keep those ideas for yourself. Youā€™re an incredible artist.ā€ In one of those sessions, I presented her to an [industry friend] named Efe, and the first time I played her music he was like, ā€œOh my God, this girl is the next Madonna!ā€ AKON: I [was struck by] her in general. When I see a star, I just know it. From the moment she walked in [for our first meeting], her appearance and her attitude felt brand new and fresh. She was so fearless. When I [had discussions with] Jimmy Iovine, from that moment everything ignited. We got excited about her, started making records, and started to craft her image. At that time, she was doing jazz-type music, and I think she needed someone to hear it all the way out and see what made sense with her idea, her look, and then pairing her with music that meshed it all into one platform. REDONE: After that, we did all the [iconic] songs: ā€œJust Dance,ā€ ā€œPoker Face,ā€ ā€œLoveGameā€ā€¦and Akon said, ā€œRed, hold on to that file. Donā€™t give it to anybody until I come for it, because I want to take these songs to Jimmy so we can make her a priority!ā€ AKON: I was contracted to do songs for The Pussycat Dolls and I had writerā€™s block the day of, so I asked RedOne if we could collaborate together to open our mindsā€¦and ā€œJust Danceā€ was originally going to be submitted for The Pussycat Dolls. When we finished, there was no way ā€œJust Danceā€ could be for them. REDONE: We met with Jimmy and he heard the songs. He said, ā€œI love the song. Can I give [it] to The Pussycat Dolls?ā€ And Akon was like, ā€œNo! Itā€™s Gaga! She can be the next big thing!ā€ Jimmy said, ā€œOkay, but one thing: I have a problem with [Gagaā€™s similarities to] her highness.ā€ I was like, ā€œWho is her highness?ā€ And he said, ā€œGwen Stefani. She reminds me of Gwen Stefani.ā€™ā€ And Akon goes, ā€œNo, sheā€™s totally different!ā€ [EW spoke to Iovine. Though he did not want to be quoted directly for this story, he felt that both Akon and RedOne were correct in expressing a desire to keep the song for Gaga.] AKON: Literally every song that we wrote was done within 30 minutes to an hour. It was all chemistry. The Fame was done in 30 days: mixed, mastered, and ready to push out. That was another reason I was so excited about working with her, because the ideas and things she sparked were so fresh. We opened our minds and tried everything. No bars, no barriers, whatever we felt that felt good, whatever we wanted to say, we said it. It was the first time she had no one telling her what she should be doing or how she should be doing it. REDONE: She reminded me of an artist who was the whole inspiration of the Gaga sound ā€” her name is Leila K, from Sweden back in the day. I said, ā€œGaga, I want to play for you this artist because if we can do what she did and make it now, it can change the world.ā€ Thatā€™s how I wanted to do an album that was different at the time for everybody ā€” with synths, big drums, big hooks ā€” but with the attitude of Gaga inspired by Leila K. AKON: I featured on the song originally, but Universal didnā€™t clear my vocals. [Several contacts at Universal and Interscope did not respond to EWā€™s request for comment.] It was a crazy momentā€¦so I got Colby Oā€™Donis to feature on it and do my verse. But, I kept my background vocals on the song, because background vocals arenā€™t considered a ā€œfeature.ā€ There was a lot of politics going on, a huge competition between Interscope and [parent company] Universal, and I like to think that because I claimed my record deal at Interscope instead of [directly with] Universal, where I was actually signed as an artist, they were kind of getting me back for that. It was so political that I didnā€™t want to fight it. The song was done, finished, ready to go all the way until two days before we shot the video, and thatā€™s when we got the notice that we couldnā€™t get clearance. It was a huge shock to Gaga [because] this was her first megaproject and her first real moment! [Oā€™Donis did not respond to requests for comment.] REDONE: The melody is so good anyway. Whoever heard it didnā€™t care if it was Akon or not. They just heard a good song. It was written as a good song. REDONE: We dropped it [on April 8, 2008], and it took a long time for people to love it. It wasnā€™t accepted in America, [but] she became No. 3 right away in Sweden because thatā€™s the country of pop and they loved it! AKON: My motto has always been to not put a label on any record, and let it find its own audience. That was one of the biggest challenges, even in the beginning, and why it took so long for it to hit on radio. We tried working radio in the U.S., and they didnā€™t bite because it was an ā€˜80s-sounding record, and that wasnā€™t the [popular] sound at that time. ā€œJust Danceā€ didnā€™t fit the format. It wasnā€™t a song that a DJ could play before or after any song that was a top hit at that moment. We flew out to the U.K. and tried to do things over there, but it didnā€™t work. When we went to Canada, thatā€™s when it hit. Thereā€™s an international crowd there thatā€™s more daring as far as what theyā€™re willing to listen to [and] Gaga whipped their airwaves. Then, the U.S. caught it and it changed the whole game and created a new movement, [especially] on the West Coast and in San Francisco, where the crowds were really eclectic and gave her a shot. The gay community was the one that actually was like, ā€œThis record is a fā€”ing anthem!ā€ and they supported her from that moment, and that became her core audience. From there, everyone else caught the wave. AKON: Everything on the radio sounded exactly the sameā€¦you had a brand new artist coming out with something fresh! [We didnā€™t] try to A&R it. We let the audience choose. That was [what I said] to every station that I went to. I was like, ā€œI know you guys have a specific playlist that you set up, but can this one record that doesnā€™t sound like anything else be chosen by the audience? Just give us a fair shot! You donā€™t have to give us a full-time rotation, just play it one time a week. Give it to the audience raw and let them make the decision!ā€ It took almost a year to pop [in the U.S.] When we did the Interscope promo tour, we didnā€™t get a full [run], so I took her on my personal promo tour for my album. We couldnā€™t give up. I refused to because I knew she was a big star; it was just a matter of the stations giving her a fair chance. Iā€™m happy I did that. At the end of the day, it opened up for a new genre and wave of music. It was worth the fight! REDONE: Every time I hear it, itā€™s like yesterday. Itā€™s so beautiful. Itā€™s the song that changed our lives. The lyrics are Gaga. I canā€™t take any credit for the genius lyrics. It comes to her so fast. I love perfection and she gives you perfection every time. Sheā€™s a machine! It spoiled me because everybody I was working with that was talented and globally known, they [couldnā€™t] match how Gaga spoiled me with class and genius lyrics. I helped her with words here and there, but I canā€™t say I wrote or co-wrote the ā€œJust Danceā€ lyrics. but I can take credit for melodies, chord progressions, and production. AKON: The artists that have the door open to be themselves are the ones that win. Their opinions should be the first thing that matters. The moment record companies get involved and try to tell you to go in one direction for this sound or to try something else for a certain amount of hit records, thatā€™s bullsā€”t. Itā€™s about if you bring something fresh and new to the game and it works, everyone else is going to cling on and try to do the same. If youā€™re the creator, you have the longevity in the business and it gives you the creativity and freedom to try something else new and fresh, and it always works. REDONE: People always tell me, ā€œOh my God, I thought she was saying red wine!ā€ This is the story of my life, that the world thinks sheā€™s saying ā€œred wine!ā€ Especially because Gaga sings, ā€œIā€™ve had a little bit too muchā€ at the start. People think sheā€™s talking about alcohol! Like she had a little bit too much red wine. Iā€™m still happy that we made history, so I donā€™t care! Itā€™s a beautiful thing I was a part of. We created history that will last forever. Source

With the occasion of ARTPOPā€™s 4th anniversary taking place today, DJWS has posted a picture on Instagram with his ARTPOP tattoo. While recalling all the things that happened during that time to both him and Lady Gaga, he thanked ARTPOP and the experience he lived for the lessons that he learned and the gifts that it gave him and Gaga. More importantly, DJWS concluded his post hinting that Lady Gagaā€™s 6th studio album might be following the same musical path that ARTPOP initiated: ā€œHappy 4th Birthday, I canā€™t wait to introduce you to your little sister soon. #LG6ā€ Later on Twitter, he added that "just to be clear, every recod is its own record" and that "this is not a second act, it's a new era".
