Lady Gaga Performs Tribute to Los Angeles at 2025 Grammys

Lady Gaga had a big night at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards — in addition to her two nominations and a sneak peek of the music video for "Abracadabra," the upcoming third single from "Mayhem," she performed a tribute to Los Angeles with Bruno Mars. 
Gaga and Mars took to the stage to perform a cover of "California Dreamin' " by The Mamas & The Papas to honor those impacted by the devastating California wildfires. 
Earlier this week, Gaga closed the FireAid Benefit Concert, a fundraising event for Los Angeles, with the performance of three songs: "Shallow," "Always Remember Us This Way" and a song she wrote for the concert, "All I Need is Time." 
Gaga was nominated in two categories this year: Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, both for her Billboard Hot 100-topping collaboration with Mars, "Die With a Smile."
Gaga's last Grammy win and performance were in 2022, when "Love For Sale" won for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. At the same ceremony, she performed a tribute to her collaborator Tony Bennett.

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars will a special “tribute to Los Angeles” at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 2, 2025. 

Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s song is nominated in two categories: Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. 
The duo have performed "Die With a Smile" at a series of Mars' concerts in Las Vegas shortly after its release. A live-recorded version of the song was released to streaming services in October 2024, alongside the music video for "Disease." 
The last time Gaga performed at the Grammys was in 2022, when she performed "Love For Sale" and "Do I Love You" in tribute to Tony Bennett. Gaga and Bennett were awarded Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for "Love For Sale," which is Gaga's last win to date. 

By the end of the night, she might leave with a total of 15 awards, which would rank her as the sixth-most Grammy-awarded female artist, tied with CeCe Winans. 
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards will air on CBS and Paramount+ at 8 p.m. EST on Feb. 2.

Lady Gaga Performs Live at FireAid Benefit Concert

Lady Gaga gave the closing performance at the FireAid Benefit Concert, an event dedicated to rebuilding communities that have been devastated by wildfires in Los Angeles, CA, at Intuit Dome on Jan. 30, 2025.
She closed the show with performances of "Shallow," "Always Remember Us This Way" and a newly written song "just for tonight," "All I Need is Time."
Gaga was last in a line-up of nearly 30 artists, including Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and Stevie Wonder, to perform at the benefit concert.

Lady Gaga Lets ELLE Ask Her Anything

Alongside appearing on the covers of its US February 2025 and UK March 2025 magazines, Lady Gaga sat down with ELLE for an "Ask Me Anything" video. 
In the video, she addressed which song she wishes she released as a single, revealed which songs she'll never stop performing and teased her upcoming seventh studio album "Mayhem," to be released March 7, 2025.

What track she wishes she released as a single:
Gaga said she would've picked "Bloody Mary," but then changed her mind: "I don't think that song would've been big when I put out 'Born This Way.'" 
She called the song "ahead of its time," and joked that she didn't know if Jenna Ortega, her co-star in the upcoming second season of "Wednesday," was alive when she released it. 
She feels like fans would have really liked it if "Government Hooker" had been a single: "But, you know, they can't always get what they want." 
Her favorite lyric she's written:
Gaga revealed a snippet of new lyrics from an unnamed "Mayhem" song:
"Saw your face in mine
In a picture by our bedside
It was cold in the summertime
We were happy just to be alive"
She said she specifically loves the "cold in the summertime" line.
How she would describe "Mayhem" in three words:
Dark, poetry, hard: "I definitely didn't adhere to any one genre, but the beats are all really hard, so that was sort of the through line, is sonically, the album is pretty hard-hitting." 
What excites her most in fashion right now:
Gaga said she loves watching young designers and name-dropped Ilona Perla Marie-Claire Slama, who creates babydoll dresses like the one she wore in "Elton John: Still Standing" and on ELLE's UK March 2025 cover: "I've been wearing those a lot. Makes me feel like a porcelain doll." 

The biggest risk she's taken musically:
Despite a lot of people not wanting her to do it, Gaga said she thinks a lot of people thought she was crazy for making jazz: "I love all different kinds of music, and I feel like part of the joy of being a musician is that you are a student, and if you are not a student, for me, that's kind of a boring expedition. It's kind of like being an explorer, but you don't really want to find anything."
The songs she'll never stop performing:
Gaga had three picks – "Born This Way," "Bad Romance" and her vocal warm-ups: "I'll always do those in the shower, for sure." 
The Easter egg she didn't think fans would catch:
Regarding Easter eggs, Gaga said, "I feel like I make them really easy. I should get better at making them harder." 
While she didn't think any would fly under the radar, she mentioned the rollout for "Disease," which was first teased with a Spotify playlist that spelled the song's name, which in turn led to a rabbit hole down different websites: "The whole time that that was happening I just was like, 'Do they know now? Do they know now?'" 
She mentioned that she loves seeing fans dissect what things mean. She said sometimes, when she's creating, she puts stories into her work and doesn't even notice she's doing it. That's where the fans come in: "Sometimes they're juts so dead-on, and other times they'll find meaning in it that I didn't even know was there." 
What advice "Mayhem" would give to "The Fame": 
Gaga answered with, "not to be so hard on herself all the time."
She recounted feeling like she had already made it when she released "The Fame," when she would make her own costumes from clothing at vintage shops and perform in New York City: "That was some of the most beautiful times in my life, and then everything that happened after was pretty wild. And, yeah, I can't believe I'm still doing it." 
Then, Gaga sat down with ELLE UK to answer some more questions. 

How she'd describe the recording process for "Mayhem":
Gaga said the recording process was about the songs, first and foremost: "It was extremely organic, and it was all about the songs. I wrote so many songs and spent a lot of time crafting and honing each one of them in. Over time, the production started to take form, and I started to produce them in more intricate ways."
What exploring "the art of intensity" for "Mayhem" entailed:
As an artist who works in extremes and pushes herself to the limit one way or another, Gaga said she wanted to explore why she works that way:  "What I found is that the harder the music was, the more fragile the lyrics became. So there’s something that I experience as a human being that is like vulnerability and toughness at the same time."
What kind of healing power music has:
Other than her fiancé and family, Gaga said nothing makes her happier than music: "It always makes me feel just really grounded and centered and oddly in control of the outcome. It’s a really chaotic process making music, but you have to rely on yourself, and I can’t rely on everyone around me when I make a song. I really have to listen to what my heart’s saying."
Given her nearly 20 years in the music industry, Gaga called it a blessing that she still loves writing and producing more than anything else: "The art of fame and my love of performing, all of those things are things that i got to explore along the way, but there’s just nothing like being in a studio by yourself and pressing record. It’s pretty cool."
What lessons fans can take from "Mayhem" that haven't been explored in previous albums:
"Mayhem" is completely about "the art of chaos": "It means if something gets too fast you have to figure out how to reign it in. if something is becoming mundane you have to add velocity."
While she said pop music doesn't have to be super deep to be fun and effective, Gaga confirmed "Mayhem" has a lot of depth to it: "When the lyrics are more honest, then you have to be that honest with the sounds, and there were some moments making this record where I really surprised myself."
She continued, "'Disease,' in a way, is so relentless the whole time that you have to have vulnerability in the lyrics. Otherwise, it will just be, to me, kind of boneheaded and dumb and boring, so you have to create wind when it’s raining rocks."

In her Elle cover-stories, Gaga revealed her upcoming album 'Mayhem'' is influenced by "’90s alternative, electro-grunge, Prince and Bowie melodies, guitar and attitude, funky bass lines, French electronic dance, and analog synths." The album is due to be released on March 7, 2025 and features production from Andrew Watt, Cirkut, and Gesaffelstein.

Gaga says the album is "utter chaos" from a genre perspective: "It breaks a lot of rules and has a lot of fun. It's about following your own chaos into whatever cranny of your life it takes you to." Singles "Disease" and "Die With A Smile" with Bruno Mars were released in 2024, the latter becoming the fastest song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.

In the interviews, Gaga celebrates other female artists like Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli XCX: "They're amazing. They're strong and vibrant and creative and artistic. I think they're being celebrated because they're wonderful."

Gaga also spoke with Elle about her engagement to Michael Polansky. She reveals that her near future will include "me and Michael and our kids […] Sometimes I worry people will say I'm boring these days, but honestly, thank God I'm boring. Thank God! Because I was living on the edge."

Michael reveals he co-wrote seven songs on 'Mayhem' with Gaga and says it was "so much fun to watch her make. She recorded it right down the street from our house, so we could easily walk back and forth from the studio." In her October cover story for Vogue, Gaga first revealed her engagement to Michael.

Gaga even addressed the recent feedback of her latest film "Joker: Folie à Deux"
"People just sometimes don't like some things,' she says matter-of-factly. 'It’s that simple. And I think to be an artist, you have to be willing for people to sometimes not like it. And you keep going even if something didn’t connect in the way that you intended. When that makes its way into your life, that can be hard to get control of. It’s part of the mayhem."

Lady Gaga to Receive Innovator Award, Scores 3 Nominations at 2025 iHeartRadio Awards

In addition to her three nominations, Lady Gaga will receive iHeartRadio's Innovator Award at their upcoming award ceremony on March 17, 2025. 
In a press release, iHeartRadio deemed Gaga "the true definition of a modern day artist innovator."
"Few artists in modern history have taken creative risks with the level of success of Gaga. ... Gaga has created music that topped the charts for years at multiple formats, while architecting groundbreaking tours and delivering powerful and versatile performances in film and TV," wrote iHeartRadio's Taylor Fields. 
Gaga is the ninth person to receive this honor, joining the likes of Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
In addition to the Innovator Award, Gaga is nominated in three categories at this year's ceremony. "Die With a Smile," her Billboard Hot 100-topping collaboration with Bruno Mars, is nominated in the Best Collaboration and Best Music Video categories. 

"GAGA Chromatica Ball," Gaga's concert film special that debuted on Max last May, is nominated for the Favorite On Screen award, among other concert and musician documentaries. 
Best Music Video and Favorite On Screen are socially voted categories, meaning fans are able to vote for their top picks. Click here to cast your votes. 
This year's nominations bring Gaga's total iHeartRadio nominations to 14. She won two awards at previous ceremonies: Best Song from a Movie ("Til it Happens to You," 2016) and Song That Left Us Shook ("I'll Never Love Again," 2019).

Lady Gaga Announces Seventh Album, "Mayhem"

The wait is over – Lady Gaga finally announced her seventh studio album, "Mayhem," will be released on March 7th.

Gaga posted a short video alongside the album announcement. 


According to Variety, the album was executive produced by Gaga, Michael Polansky and Andrew Watt. Producers on the album include Gaga, Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Gesaffelstein.
The album's third single and music video will be released this Sunday, Feb. 2, during the 2025 Grammy Awards.

The 15th track is an extra bonus song on some physical releases of the album. 
In a press statement, Gaga described the album's writing process as “reassembling a shattered mirror."
“The album began with me confronting my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved," she wrote. "Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can still create something beautiful and whole in its own unique way.”
An official billboard appeared in Times Square with the announcement earlier this morning.
The lead-up to the album's announcement started last week, when a mysterious countdown appeared on Gaga's official website. Upon scrubbing the screen, "LG1" appeared behind the site's background, in the signature font of "The Fame" era.
The next day, the site's appearance changed, ditching the hazy blue background for a flowing black one. This time, scrubbing the screen revealed "LG2," in the font from "The Fame Monster" album cover. This continued until Monday, January 27, when "Mayhem" was officially announced.
Gaga first teased her return at the end of the "GAGA Chromatica Ball" concert special in May, when a brief snippet of new music played beside the words "GAGA RETURNS."
After teasing two new snippets following her performance at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Gaga released "Disease," the lead single, on Oct. 25, 2024. 
In December, Gaga told the Los Angeles Times that "Die With a Smile," her Hot 100-topping collaboration with Bruno Mars, will be included on "Mayhem." The song has already exceeded 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Lady Gaga to perform at L.A. FireAid Concert

Lady Gaga has been confirmed as a performer for the L.A. FireAid Concert, which will take place on January 30th at the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum in Inglewood.

The event, which will be live-streamed, is expected to raise millions for disaster relief for the victims from the wildfires that devastated Southern California earlier this month.
Other acts including Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gracie Abrams, and Green Day have been confirmed by TMZ as performers. Two dozen more acts are expected to be announced for the two concerts that will take place at the end of the month.
Tickets will go on sale on January 22nd at 12pm PST on Ticketmaster.

O Globo confirmed that Lady Gaga will officially perform in Rio on May 3rd.
The free show, titled "Lady Gaga Todo Mundo no Rio" (Lady Gaga: The Whole World in Rio), will take place on Copacabana Beach on Saturday, May 3rd at 21:00. 'Die With A Smile' Hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' record-breaking and chart-topping single "Die With A Smile" reaches No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of January 11, 2025.
"Die With A Smile" rises 16 spots in its 20th week of charting to top the Hot 100 after previously peaking at No. 2 for four weeks in November 2024. The single was the highest charting non-Christmas song throughout December.
The smash-hit marks Bruno Mars' 9th chart-topper in the US, while it becomes Gaga's 6th No. 1 hit, following "Just Dance" feat. Colby O'Donis (2009), "Poker Face" (2009), "Born This Way" (2011), "Shallow" with Bradley Cooper (2019), and "Rain On Me" with Ariana Grande (2020).
Gaga becomes one of the few artists with multiple No. 1 songs in three different decades and only the second female artist after Janet Jackson.

"Die With A Smile" previously topped the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts for eight weeks in 2024, the second-longest running No. 1 of the year. It became the first song to earn over 100 million streams in ten consecutive weeks on the Global 200 chart.
The record-breaking song is also up for two GRAMMYs for Best Pop/Duo Group Performance and Song of the Year. Additionally it became the fastest song to reach one billion streams on Spotify and one of the top five longest-running No. 1 hits in the chart’s history, with over 100 days and counting.

Gaga finally learned what Fortnite is when she was announced as the game's featured artist on Feb. 22, 2024. Players were able to purchase the Chromatica Gaga Bundle, which featured perks inspired by Gaga's 2020 album "Chromatica," such as the Chromatica Armor outfit and "Rain Check" emote. 

Several of her songs were made available as Jam Tracks, including "Stupid Love," "Poker Face," "Born This Way" and more. 
She began teasing her return to music via Instagram, when she posted several photos from a recording studio. 
March
Haus Labs, Gaga's beauty brand, went live in European Sephora stores on March 26. Gaga joined beauty content creator Nikkie de Jager, better known as NIkkieTutorials, on a livestream to celebrate the expansion. 
Gaga also hosted an event on behalf of Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals to celebrate the innovative company's discovery of the first treatment for vitiligo, an autoimmune condition that causes loss of skin color.

The first official poster and trailer for "Joker: Folie à Deux," the sequel to Todd Phillips' 2019 film "Joker" starring Joaquin Phoenix, were released in early April, granting fans an early look at Gaga's character Harleen "Lee" Quinzel.

"GAGA Chromatica Ball," a concert film depicting Gaga's sold-out 2022 show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, was released to Max on May 25. Gaga edited and directed the film herself.

The premiere came alongside special Chromatica Ball merch and live viewing parties around the world. 

The film gave fans the first taste of Gaga's upcoming seventh studio album, as it ended with a short snippet of new music and the text "LG7 GAGA RETURNS."

Gaga kicked off the eighth leg of her "Jazz & Piano" residency at Park MGM in Las Vegas on June 19. Gaga debuted new outfits and an unexpected rendition of 2011's "Americano," which stayed on the show's setlist through the summer. 

Additionally, she made a surprise appearance at a private event celebrating Summer Solstice in Nemacolin, Pennsylvania. She performed a full set, comprised of her hits like "You and I" and "Bad Romance" as well as classics "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," "La Vie en Rose" and Tony Bennett's "Steppin' Out With My Baby."

After wrapping the eighth leg of "Jazz & Piano," Gaga was announced as a performer at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France. She performed a special rendition of French singer Zizi Jeanmaire's "Mon truc en plumes" at the Olympics' Opening Ceremony alongside the river Seine on July 26. 

When in Paris, Gaga accidentally leaked her engagement to longtime partner Michael Polansky to the world when she was recorded introducing him as her fiancé to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.
Later, she revealed she intended to keep the engagement a secret after Michael proposed in April. 
The "LG7" teasing continued, as after her Olympics performance, she posted a photo to Instagram Stories telling fans she would play a few seconds of "LG7" outside her hotel. The two snippets she played featured techno elements and were notably different than the one at the end of "GAGA Chromatica Ball." 
Gaga also graced the cover of EMPIRE Magazine, giving her first interview on her "Joker: Folie à Deux" character.  

August
On August 15, Gaga announced "Die With A Smile," her collaboration with Bruno Mars, which released alongside its video on that same day. The video features Gaga and Mars in matching blue-and-red outfits, performing the song on a mock studio set. 


Gaga joined Mars at his concert at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, to debut a live version of the song on its release night. 
The song debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has remained in the Top 10 of the chart since its release (with the exception of one week, when the Top 10 was occupied by holiday songs). 
September
September saw Gaga in full-press mode to promote "Joker: Folie à Deux," starting with its premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. 

While in Venice, Gaga shocked fans by posting a picture of her itinerary to Instagram, revealing that the lead single from "LG7" would be released in October. 
In an interview with Vogue, she revealed the long-awaited "LG7" is coming in February 2025. 

Until then, she continued promoting "Joker: Folie à Deux," attending the film's London and Los Angeles premieres toward the end of the month. 

The biggest surprise of the month, however, was the mysterious announcement of "LG6.5" on billboards in Los Angeles and New York City, alongside a series of cryptic posts to her Instagram feed. Soon after, the project was revealed to be "Harlequin," a full-length companion album to the film, released on September 27. 

The album contains 13 songs -- many of them covers, plus two original songs, "Folie à Deux" and "Happy Mistake." The cover versions are featured in "Joker: Folie à Deux," but were sonically reimagined for "Harlequin." 
Gaga rounded out the month attending a special "Harlequin" listening party with fans in London and guest appearances on "The Graham Norton Show" and Zane Lowe's Apple Music radio show. 
October
October was a big month for Gaga. As "Die With A Smile" saw continued chart success and a nomination for Best Collaboration at the 2024 EMAs, "Joker: Folie à Deux" and its soundtrack were internationally released on October 4. The film was made available for digital purchase on October 29. 
To finish its promotional cycle, Gaga guested and performed "Happy Mistake" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" 

But, that was just the beginning. Seven of her song titles were reformatted on streaming platforms, with their titles in all caps aside from the first letter. These seven letters spelled out the word "disease." 
After Gaga posted a playlist titled ".COM," fans were quick to find that the secret message spelled "gagadisease.com." Upon visiting the website, fans were greeted with a lyric that, once searched, would lead to another website. After cycling through nine websites, it was revealed that "Disease," the lead single from "LG7," would be released on October 25. 

"Disease" marked a return to the dark electro soundscape explored on 2011's "Born This Way" album. Its horror-themed music video, released on October 29, showed Gaga on the run from a masked figure (portrayed by herself), and also featured a brief snippet of new music midway through the video. 

The same night as the music video release, Gaga dropped a live taping of "Die With A Smile," performed with Mars in Las Vegas. 

November
Gaga kicked off the month performing "God Bless America" and "The Edge of Glory" at the final rally for US presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris on November 4 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

Days later, Gaga scored two nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards for "Die With A Smile." Gaga and Mars' duet was nominated in the Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories. 
Later in the month, "Die With A Smile" became the fastest song to break 1 billion streams on Spotify. 
Gaga's headlining return to Coachella was announced on November 19. This will be Gaga's second time performing at the festival, following her headline slot in 2017. 
Two live versions of "Disease" -- "The Antidote Live" and "The Poison Live" -- were released alongside their in-studio performance videos throughout the month. 


Fans caught wind of Gaga's next acting venture once it was announced that she's joining the cast of the second season of Netflix's "Wednesday," after the show helped popularize the "Born This Way" deep cut "Bloody Mary" last year. Not much is known of Gaga's role in the series, but it is expected to be released in 2025. 
Additionally, Billboard named Gaga the fifth best pop star of the 21st century. 
December
Gaga starred in "A Carpool Karaoke Christmas," the Zane Lowe-hosted holiday special on Apple TV+, alongside Dua Lipa and Chappell Roan. In the special, Gaga sang several songs, including "Disease," "Die With A Smile" and the holiday classic "Christmas Tree."

Her rock-infused cover of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town," which was also featured in the special, was released to streaming services at the same time. 

Gaga made another appearance in the Hulu-exclusive "Elton John: Still Standing," where she spoke of her personal relationship with Elton John and the influence he's had on her career. 
Then, Gaga made waves when her upcoming performance at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was announced for May 2025. The performance is expected to be one of the biggest events in history, following Madonna's record-breaking show last year. 
Finally, to end the year, Gaga appeared in the Top 10 of several of Billboard's end-of-year charts:

Lady Gaga has been confirmed as the next artist to perform on Copacabana Beach in 2025.
During a press conference for the 2025 Events Agenda, the organizers of events in the Latin American city confirmed the highly anticipated return of Lady Gaga to Rio de Janeiro in May 2025. She will hold a free concert on Copacabana Beach, just as Madonna did last year.
This marks the return of the star since her last visit in 2012 and is expected to be one of the biggest events in history.

Lady Gaga Talks LG7 And Coachella for LA Times

Lady Gaga recently spoke with the Los Angeles Times about her incredible year, touching on the massive success of her chart-topping single, "Die With A Smile", and the buzz surrounding her latest project, Harlequin. She also shared her excitement about headlining Coachella and teased her highly anticipated upcoming album.
Here’s a sneak peek from the interview.
Lady Gaga, who’s 38 and engaged to tech entrepreneur Michael Polansky, spoke about the song — as well as the upcoming album that her fans refer to as LG7 and her booking as a headliner at next year’s Coachella festival — between video shoots this week at a Santa Monica recording studio. She was wearing an elaborate white gown with a long train and pointy shoulders, and her braided blond hair was tucked beneath a headband for a vaguely “Midsommar”-ish look.
My understanding is that “Die With a Smile” grew out of a late-night phone call from Bruno.
We had been talking about working together, and we were trying to figure out what we were gonna do. He called me and he said, “I have this idea.” I really wanted to hear what he was doing, so I went over there really late and he played me the start of this idea. He had a couple different ideas, but I said, “This one is a love song — I think people would love to hear us do a love song.”
Is the song connected to whatever’s happening on LG7?
Absolutely. “Die With a Smile” is on my record — it’s a huge part of my album. It was like this missing piece. The record is full of my love of music — so many different genres, so many different styles, so many different dreams. It leaps around genre in a way that’s almost corrupt. And it ends with love. That’s the answer to all the chaos in my life is that I find peace with love. Every song that I wrote, I just kept getting kind of swept away in these different dreams I was having about the past — almost like a recollection of all these bad decisions that I made in my life. But it ends in this very happy place.
You’ve returned to ballads regularly throughout your career.
I’m thinking of one record I didn’t put on my [upcoming] album that’s actually… I might put it out so I don’t want to share the name. You almost got me [laughs]. It’s actually very fragile and not big — one of the first times I’ve ever done that. But I like big ballads. You can sing along about love in a big way. I love emotional, dramatic music, whether it’s James Taylor and Carole King or it’s David Lee Roth.
You’re headlining Coachella in April, which will be your second time there after performing in 2017. When the announcement came out, you said, “I’ve had a vision I’ve never been able to fully realize at Coachella” and that you’ve “been wanting to go back and to do it right.” Can you elaborate?
Well, for reasons totally outside of my control, there was a cancellation —
Beyoncé pulled out in 2017 because she was pregnant, and you stepped in.
I really wanted to be there for music fans, and at the time there was all this excitement to be able to film bits of “A Star Is Born” at Coachella. But I only had two weeks [to prepare for the show]. And so to design a stage, to have it made, all of those things — I didn’t have the time to totally do what I really wanted to do. I love music. I love performing. I love music fans. And I was so excited to film pieces of our movie there. So I did it, and I loved it. But you know when you have a vision in your mind of how you want to do something? It’s time to make it happen.
There’s something slightly manic to my ears about “Harlequin.”
“Manic” is the right word. There’s surf-punk influence on the album. There’s doom-jazz influence on the album. There’s New Orleans influence on the album. It was through the lens of a woman that wants to be whoever she wants whenever she feels like it — a woman that will light the stage on fire if she feels like it. In a way, it was kind of defiant: When I’ve sung jazz for most of my career, I think that some people really loved it and other people never understood why I deviated to other genres. The beauty of why I make records is I love learning about music. I loved working with Tony. I loved making “Harlequin.” I loved collaborating with all the DJs and Gesaffelstein on my new album. I loved learning about industrial music and about all the different crevices of electronic music, and then I loved working with Bruno. One of the things I’ve probably been judged for in my career was not sticking to one thing. But not sticking to one thing is my life force.

Lady Gaga Appears on Billboard's Year-End Dance/Electronic and Jazz Charts

Even though she released no new dance music during the tracking period, Lady Gaga still has a heavy presence on Billboard's Year-End Dance/Electronic charts, as well as a Top 10 appearance on one of the year-end Jazz charts. 
Gaga landed at No. 3 on 2024's Top Dance/Electronic Artists chart, trailing behind Charli xcx and Dua Lipa, who both released albums earlier this year. 
Despite celebrating its 16th birthday this year, "The Fame" ended 2024 at No. 2 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, with Charli xcx's "Brat" taking the top position. The 13-year-old "Born This Way" checked in at No. 8 on the chart. 


Gaga topped the Dance/Electronic Albums Artists chart at No. 1. According to Billboard, this chart's ranking is based on an artist's chart performance on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Top Dance/Electronic Albums and touring revenue.
On the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart, Gaga came in at No. 3, behind Dua Lipa and Charli xcx. 
Three Gaga songs landed in the Top 50 of the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart – "Poker Face" (No. 12), "Bad Romance" (No. 24) and "Just Dance" (No. 29). 
Following the release of "Joker: Folie à Deux" companion album "Harlequin," Gaga ended the year at No. 10 on the Traditional Jazz Albums Artists chart. "Harlequin" placed at No. 17 on the Traditional Jazz Albums chart. 

"Die With A Smile," despite spending weeks in the Top 3 of Billboard's Hot 100 during the year, appears at only No. 62 on the year-end chart. This may be attributed to the tracking period for the year-end charts running from Oct. 28, 2023 through Oct. 19, 2024. Still, it ended the year at No. 25 on the Adult Contemporary Songs chart.

Lady Gaga Appears In New Special "Elton John: Still Standing"

Lady Gaga appears in IMPACT x Nightline's new Elton John documentary special "Elton John: Still Standing," now streaming exclusively on Hulu.
Across several segments, Gaga speaks about her personal relationship with Elton and the influence he's had on her career. "Elton's talent is really unparalleled," Gaga says in the opening. "There will never be another."
Gaga discusses her performance of "Speechless" and "Your Song" with Elton at the 2010 GRAMMYs, saying the latter is her favorite Elton song of all time. "That moment, playing with him meant so much to me." She goes on to say that the performance marked the moment she knew the two would become friends.

Gaga, one of Elton's closest friends and Godmother to his children, also speaks about her relationship with his family. "I try to be there in moments throughout their lives to let them know they always have me. They, too, call me 'Gaga-mother,' and it's very, very cute—with the accents, especially," she says.

"He always wanted me to be okay, and I think that's really rare in a business where very often you're just encouraged to succeed and outdo yourself. Elton wanted me to be happy."
