Lady Gaga graced the cover of W Magazine's "Best Performances" Issue.

Gaga was interviewed by Lynn Hirschberg, speaking about her performance in House of Gucci. The shoot was photographed by Tim Walker and styled by Sandra Amador and Tom Eerebout.

In the interview, Gaga gave further insight into how she found the character of Patrizia Reggiani. “I felt Patrizia would dance like she was underwater, like she was coming up for air,” she said of the early disco scenes when she first meets Maurizio Gucci. “Everything about her had to do with striving. At the disco, she knew she was seen—and, in a way, it was the last time she was free.”

When asked if she was sad to let the role go at the end of production, Gaga noted, “On the last day of filming, I was on the balcony of my apartment in Rome, and I was blasting Dean Martin singing "Mambo Italiano," and I had a cigarette hanging out of my mouth. I was Patrizia. But I knew I had to say goodbye to her: Large swarms of flies kept following me around, and I truly began to believe that she had sent them. I was ready to let her go.”

Lady Gaga had yet another spectacular year in 2021, proving again that she is one of the most remarkable, versatile artists of our time. Let's recap some of her best moments from the past year.
Gaga's 2021 kicked off with a show-stopping performance of the United States national anthem at President Joe Biden's inauguration in January. Gaga rocked a custom-made Schiaparelli navy-blue and red gown with a golden dove, sporting a bulletproof vest beneath.
Shortly afterwards, Gaga moved to Italy, where she would join a star-studded cast including the likes of Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino and Salma Hayek, to film the Ridley Scott-directed House of Gucci. The first photo from the set, unveiled back in March, went viral on the web, generating instant buzz for the movie.
While in Italy, Gaga was honoured across the pond at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards. She took home her 12th award overall for her #1 hit "Rain on Me" with Ariana Grande from Chromatica, which was also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
June is traditionally known as Pride month, but in 2021 it also marked the 10-year anniversary of one of Gaga’s greatest and most groundbreaking works, Born This Way. In a touching ceremony, Gaga was presented the key to the city of West Hollywood. To commemorate the life-saving impact of her magnum-opus, Born This Way Reimagined: The Tenth Anniversary was released featuring LGBTQ+ icons and advocates including Kylie Minogue, Years & Years and Ben Platt.
After the hype of the first trailer for House of Gucci, Gaga invited us back to Chromatica once again, with an incredible remix album - Dawn of Chromatica, featuring remixes from dance-pop powerhouses Rina Sawayama, Pabllo Vittar and Charli XCX, among others.
Then, history repeated itself. Immediately following the release of a dance/electronic/experimental record, Gaga unveiled her second collaborative, now-GRAMMY-nominated album with the legendary Tony Bennett, Love for Sale (this release pattern closely resembled the release of her first Bennett duets album, Cheek to Cheek,  shortly after ARTPOP). Gaga dove headfirst into celebrating their remarkable partnership, in light of Tony’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. They filmed a number of TV specials, including Gaga's debut on (and Tony's return to) MTV Unplugged, a documentary set to premiere on Paramount Plus in 2022, and performed One Last Time, Tony's final concert appearance, at Radio City Music Hall, later broadcast as a touching CBS special.
In celebration of Love For Sale, Gaga made a triumphant solo return to the stage. Following a headlining Livestream jazz concert presented by Westfield, Lady Gaga Celebrates Love For Sale, she remounted her Las Vegas residency, Jazz and Piano, for a strictly limited October engagement.
It soon came time for Gaga to take her rightful place on red carpets around the globe, in support of House of Gucci. Gaga dazzled us in London wearing a gorgeous violet purple gown from the Gucci Love Parade collection, in Milan wearing a bright red custom Versace, in New York with a custom black velvet halter gown by Giorgio Armani PrivÊ, and in Los Angeles with a metallic sequin gown with a train from Valentino. Each red carpet look lit up social media, in true Gaga fashion. When the film finally hit theaters, the world had one thing to say: "Father, Son, and House of Gucci".
As if the rest hadn't been enough, Gaga also made history as she unveiled her cover shoots for both British Vogue and Vogue Italia at the same time, breathtakingly shot by Steven Meisel.

Lady Gaga joined Variety journalist Mark Malkin on this week's Just for Variety podcast to discuss House of Gucci, her acting process, and potentially making her way to Broadway.
"I'd love to do a romantic comedy," Gaga told Malkin as they reflected back on her previous, intensely dramatic roles. She notes that her manager Bobby Campbell suggested she does one after wrapping House of Gucci.
During the interview, Gaga revealed for the first time that "she sought on-set help from a mental health professional during the final days of shooting." “I had a psychiatric nurse with me towards the end of filming,” she explained. “I sort of felt like I had to. I felt that it was safer for me.”
She goes on to note that she has a history of taking her work to extreme levels: "I’ve done some pretty extreme art pieces throughout my career — the things I’ve put my body through, my mind. It’s like a walnut of sadness in my stomach as I say this to you. I don’t know why I’m like that. I think that the best answer I could give you is I have a sort of romantic relationship with suffering for your art that I developed as a young girl, and it just sometimes goes too far. And when it does go too far, it can be hard to reel it in on your own.”
Malkin took the opportunity to ask Gaga about a potential Broadway debut. “Maybe when I write my first musical,” she replied. “There are so many amazing musicals, but I love writing music. I love musical theater, and I know a lot about musical theater, and I know a lot about music. So I think I would really enjoy the process of creating a musical. I’ve thought about it for a really long time.”
