In a press statement, Gaga described the album's writing process as “reassembling a shattered mirror." “The album began with me confronting my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved," she wrote. "Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can still create something beautiful and whole in its own unique way.” An official billboard appeared in Times Square with the announcement earlier this morning. The lead-up to the album's announcement started last week, when a mysterious countdown appeared on Gaga's official website. Upon scrubbing the screen, "LG1" appeared behind the site's background, in the signature font of "The Fame" era. The next day, the site's appearance changed, ditching the hazy blue background for a flowing black one. This time, scrubbing the screen revealed "LG2," in the font from "The Fame Monster" album cover. This continued until Monday, January 27, when "Mayhem" was officially announced. Gaga first teased her return at the end of the "GAGA Chromatica Ball" concert special in May, when a brief snippet of new music played beside the words "GAGA RETURNS." After teasing two new snippets following her performance at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Gaga released "Disease," the lead single, on Oct. 25, 2024. In December, Gaga told the Los Angeles Times that "Die With a Smile," her Hot 100-topping collaboration with Bruno Mars, will be included on "Mayhem." The song has already exceeded 1 billion streams on Spotify.

  7. From recording a Grammy-nominated duet to starring in a highly anticipated movie sequel, Lady Gaga enjoyed a legendary year throughout the entirety of 2024. Here's a look back at some of her biggest successes this year. February Gaga finally learned what Fortnite is when she was announced as the game's featured artist on Feb. 22, 2024. Players were able to purchase the Chromatica Gaga Bundle, which featured perks inspired by Gaga's 2020 album "Chromatica," such as the Chromatica Armor outfit and "Rain Check" emote. Several of her songs were made available as Jam Tracks, including "Stupid Love," "Poker Face," "Born This Way" and more. She began teasing her return to music via Instagram, when she posted several photos from a recording studio. Gaga also graced the cover of EMPIRE Magazine, giving her first interview on her "Joker: Folie à Deux" character. August On August 15, Gaga announced "Die With A Smile," her collaboration with Bruno Mars, which released alongside its video on that same day. The video features Gaga and Mars in matching blue-and-red outfits, performing the song on a mock studio set. Gaga joined Mars at his concert at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, to debut a live version of the song on its release night. The song debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has remained in the Top 10 of the chart since its release (with the exception of one week, when the Top 10 was occupied by holiday songs). September September saw Gaga in full-press mode to promote "Joker: Folie à Deux," starting with its premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. While in Venice, Gaga shocked fans by posting a picture of her itinerary to Instagram, revealing that the lead single from "LG7" would be released in October. In an interview with Vogue, she revealed the long-awaited "LG7" is coming in February 2025. Until then, she continued promoting "Joker: Folie à Deux," attending the film's London and Los Angeles premieres toward the end of the month. The biggest surprise of the month, however, was the mysterious announcement of "LG6.5" on billboards in Los Angeles and New York City, alongside a series of cryptic posts to her Instagram feed. Soon after, the project was revealed to be "Harlequin," a full-length companion album to the film, released on September 27. The album contains 13 songs -- many of them covers, plus two original songs, "Folie à Deux" and "Happy Mistake." The cover versions are featured in "Joker: Folie à Deux," but were sonically reimagined for "Harlequin." Gaga rounded out the month attending a special "Harlequin" listening party with fans in London and guest appearances on "The Graham Norton Show" and Zane Lowe's Apple Music radio show. October October was a big month for Gaga. As "Die With A Smile" saw continued chart success and a nomination for Best Collaboration at the 2024 EMAs, "Joker: Folie à Deux" and its soundtrack were internationally released on October 4. The film was made available for digital purchase on October 29. To finish its promotional cycle, Gaga guested and performed "Happy Mistake" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" But, that was just the beginning. Seven of her song titles were reformatted on streaming platforms, with their titles in all caps aside from the first letter. These seven letters spelled out the word "disease." After Gaga posted a playlist titled ".COM," fans were quick to find that the secret message spelled "gagadisease.com." Upon visiting the website, fans were greeted with a lyric that, once searched, would lead to another website. After cycling through nine websites, it was revealed that "Disease," the lead single from "LG7," would be released on October 25. "Disease" marked a return to the dark electro soundscape explored on 2011's "Born This Way" album. Its horror-themed music video, released on October 29, showed Gaga on the run from a masked figure (portrayed by herself), and also featured a brief snippet of new music midway through the video. The same night as the music video release, Gaga dropped a live taping of "Die With A Smile," performed with Mars in Las Vegas. November Gaga kicked off the month performing "God Bless America" and "The Edge of Glory" at the final rally for US presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris on November 4 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Days later, Gaga scored two nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards for "Die With A Smile." Gaga and Mars' duet was nominated in the Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories. Later in the month, "Die With A Smile" became the fastest song to break 1 billion streams on Spotify. Gaga's headlining return to Coachella was announced on November 19. This will be Gaga's second time performing at the festival, following her headline slot in 2017. Two live versions of "Disease" -- "The Antidote Live" and "The Poison Live" -- were released alongside their in-studio performance videos throughout the month. Fans caught wind of Gaga's next acting venture once it was announced that she's joining the cast of the second season of Netflix's "Wednesday," after the show helped popularize the "Born This Way" deep cut "Bloody Mary" last year. Not much is known of Gaga's role in the series, but it is expected to be released in 2025. Additionally, Billboard named Gaga the fifth best pop star of the 21st century. December Gaga starred in "A Carpool Karaoke Christmas," the Zane Lowe-hosted holiday special on Apple TV+, alongside Dua Lipa and Chappell Roan. In the special, Gaga sang several songs, including "Disease," "Die With A Smile" and the holiday classic "Christmas Tree." Her rock-infused cover of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town," which was also featured in the special, was released to streaming services at the same time. Gaga made another appearance in the Hulu-exclusive "Elton John: Still Standing," where she spoke of her personal relationship with Elton John and the influence he's had on her career. Then, Gaga made waves when her upcoming performance at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was announced for May 2025. The performance is expected to be one of the biggest events in history, following Madonna's record-breaking show last year. Finally, to end the year, Gaga appeared in the Top 10 of several of Billboard's end-of-year charts: Top Dance/Electronic Artists (No. 3) Top Dance/Electronic Albums ("The Fame," No. 2; "Born This Way," No. 8) Dance/Electronic Albums Artists (No. 1) Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs (No. 3) Traditional Jazz Album Artists (No. 10) 2025 promises to be a big year for Gaga. 21. Lady Gaga and Spotify's Head of Global Editorial Sulinna Ong sat down for InStyle to talk about the upcoming Little Monster Press Conference, a fan-only event where Little Monsters can ask her anything. Gaga also dished on the creative process behind "Mayhem" and teased lyrics to two new songs. To read the interview in its entirety, click here. You can find highlights below. Gaga said that since the beginning of her career, community has been most important to her. The reason she wanted to do the press conference with Spotify was give her fan community a special opportunity to ask anything they may have wondered in the past two decades. "Feel free to ask me whatever you want!," she said. "We've been in this public conversation for a long time and I'm just so excited to talk to you." She went on to explain how she thinks some fans have missed her style of a "dark pop album," and she looks forward to putting "Mayhem" out because releasing an album allows an artist to reconnect with fans: "I made this for them." Calling the album a "return to an earlier process," Gaga revealed that "Mayhem" mixes live instrumentation and programming, which allowed her and her team of collaborators – Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Gesaffelstein – to create unique, never-before-heard sounds. Genre did not play as significant a role in the writing and recording process for "Mayhem" as it did in her other musical projects the past decade. "I would get seduced by making the album kind of homogenous, or on-theme. ... On 'Mayhem,' it was the opposite. I instead decided to allow myself the freedom to be chaotic with the genres and be chaotic with the choices as a way of celebrating the type of musician that I am." Gaga said "Mayhem" is a bunch of twisted, gothic dreams: "Some are true and some are not true, but they're somehow related to life." She cited "The Beast," the album's 12th song, as an example. The song, which she described as "me singing to a werewolf," features the lyrics: "You can't hide who you are, 11:59, your heart's racin', you're growling, and we both know why." She explained, "Somehow that gothic dream is not just about me in a relationship wit this person that's about to turn, but what if I was to just sing it to myself and the beast is Gaga?" The concept of duality is explored through the "Mayhem" era, from the multiple Gagas in the music videos for "Disease" and "Abracadabra" to the album track "Perfect Celebrity." Gaga expanded this duality by sharing a lyric from the upcoming song: "I've become a notorious being, find my clone, she's asleep on the ceiling." "It's the idea that we all, in a way, have our real selves and then our clone version that we project to the world," she explained. "So there's a lot in 'Mayhem' about multiple yous or multiple mes and what it's like to have those things be at odds with each other all the time." 24. Lady Gaga's new choreographer and "Abracadabra" co-director, Parris Goebel, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer, shared the inspiration behind MAYHEM's brand-new viral single and music video. When asked about being the latest addition to the Haus of Gaga team, Parris responded: "...when her team reached out and I got to meet her and listen to her album and she welcomed me into her world, I just couldn't believe it. She has inspired me so much, and I think just as a woman, she knows no boundaries, and that, for me, is how I approach my artistry. Now, being a part of her world, it's really the coolest shit I've ever done." Delving further into the creation of the "Abracadabra" music video, she added: "This project explores different sides of Gaga and how they coexist in her life. Everything is very theatrical... From the styling to the casting to the set, how we design the club, to the lighting, everything just matters. You're creating a whole world from scratch. Everything was just done so delicately and meticulously and I got to bring on dancers that I've admired for years. I brought in choreographers to dance, which never happens in our world—all ages, all walks of life, and people I've worked with for years." Parris also discussed the rehearsals and the process behind the making of the video: "We were prepping, oh my goodness, maybe for about three weeks in total. ... But the shoot was two days long and was really demanding for everyone. You can see they're dancing from top to bottom, and we're doing take after take after take, but you can feel that hard work through the video. ... We should just build our own club. I think it's going to have such a different feel to actually be in this space. If we’re going to have 50, 60 dancers in the room, I think it's going to inspire everyone to really get lost in this world if we actually build the set out and make it feel like we're transporting everyone to a different dimension." Speaking about the many hidden details in the already viral music video and what fans can expect from the Mayhem era, Parris said: "I would say bringing pop culture back to life." Check out the full interview HERE.
  25. Lady Gaga discusses the inspiration for "Abracadabra" music video in a new interview with Elle UK magazine following its surprise reveal during the 67th Grammy Awards. In the interview, Gaga breaks down the inspiration for the video's costumes, choreography, and her upcoming studio album MAYHEM, out March 7. Talking about the choreography for the "Abracadabra" video: "Parris and I worked really closely together, she's just a total genius. We did the video for Disease together and then we had a conversation about continuing that inner dialogue idea. It is part of Mayhem - these conflicting side of ourselves that don't really make sense but are just continuing to have this argument. How do we say that through dance? We ultimately decided that the video should be Mayhem the character, the lady in red - it's her club, and it's her night and she's saying, 'Okay, everybody that's here with us, we've done this before. And, tonight, you only have two choices, you can either dance or it's over. And I'm out.' And we decided we wanted the video to be about being up for that challenge. And so then Parris went to work for many weeks on all the different choreography. And we were constantly back and forth about it and then I went into the studio to learn it all. That was an amazing time. What I love is that the movement also expresses so much of what I'm trying to say and on a first listen of Abracadabra, you might go 'What is this about? It's fun to listen to, but what does it all mean?' And to me, when you see the video it should become clearer that it just means we have to keep going." Talking about the "Lady in Red": "The lady in red is all of you that puts you to the test. Your internal monologue. 'Can you do it? Can you do it? Will you do it? Are you good enough? Can you handle it?' In a lot of ways, the song is about dealing with that challenge to yourself and very often the world around us can reflect it back to us as well. I wanted to explore the question, 'What does it feel like to thrive and not just be surviving all the time? To me, in this video, she initiates the challenge and this purer side of me that is peering up at all of the negative backtalk, all of the doubt, and facing all that side of me, she completely comes through. And she says, 'I'm up for the challenge.' And it's interesting because we had all these different ways that we thought about the video ending and ultimately I wanted this song to be about resilience in a way the song Disease was not. That track was about inner torture and being trapped." Talking about the costumes for the "Abracadabra" video: "Something that was important to me was in a video of this size that we were also environmentally conscious to not overproduce and make too many new things. So actually my main white cape in the video was upcycled using old wedding dresses. And we also used deadstock fabric for the dancer's clothes. That's fabric that's been in warehouses for long periods of time. And we also used pieces from my archive; so old costumes are reinterpreted. There were a few new pieces. But we were trying to make something that was in the spirit of love the whole way through, something that was made with a really warm heart and community in mind." Talking about the title of her new album: "The album was called Mayhem to memorialize a piece of me and a piece of life that is not always easy to accept. It was hard at first to name the album Mayhem because I so much don't want that feeling to be real. I am also a hopeful person. I'm also somebody that is a dreamer, but what I think I ultimately arrived at is; it's all of the fractures of who we are and the fractures in the world and the mayhem of that brokenness that ultimately teaches us the power of joy, and dancing and crying and laughing and listening to music and holding your friends and your family and repeat! This album is fun and I enjoyed the contrast of a fun album that's also called Mayhem." Talking about the musical inspirations for MAYHEM: "There was industrial inspiration with a lot of the sounds. There's as transitional moment on the album that's rooted in nineties music. A sort of electro grunge defiance. That era in music which was a response to the music that came before it. And then David Bowie theatrical rock, Prince, Radiohead. I was inspired by so much music that has grown roots in my veins." Read the full Elle interview here.

You can watch the full interview below: In the interview, Lady Gaga entagles the many layers of her latest single "Disease", guiding us in each step of the production of the song with Cirkut and Andrew Watt. Lady Gaga's untitled seveth studio album will be released on February 2025. In the meantime you can stream Lady Gaga's new single "Disease" here.
  35. In an interview with Billboard, "Disease" co-producer Henry Walter aka Cirkut detailed the writing process for the song, as well as his experience working with the "legendary" Lady Gaga. Read some quotes from the interview below. Meeting Gaga: Cirkut was introduced to Gaga through "Die With a Smile" co-writer and co-producer Andrew Watt, who recommended they collaborate on the project. "So, I met Gaga for the first time in the studio, and it was amazing. I was really excited to work with her, we were off to the races as soon as we met." After being a fan for years, Cirkut said he was drawn to working with Gaga because, "She is just a legendary artist." "Selfishly, I did want to see what I could accomplish with her. Just the thought of wondering what a Gaga record would sound like if I produced it was really exciting from the get-go." Early stages of "Disease": Gaga was "instrumental" in early discussions about where they wanted to go with the sound. Cirkut said, "We all wanted to make something that still felt like it was decidedly Gaga, but always asking the question of, 'What does that sound like today?' " These ideas resulted in the "very aggressive" lead single from Gaga's upcoming seventh studio album, melding heavy guitars with a heavy synth-dance sound. " 'Disease' [is] a daring record to me. It’s very aggressive. I wouldn’t say it’s a safe, 'nice' song to ease you into things. ... It’s a very in-your-face kind of record," he said. "I wanted to make sure that we brought the essence of Gaga into this song and all of the things that are so great about her — the drama, the theatrics, that in-your-face sound — but still putting a fresh spin on it." In the studio: Cirkut described the "synergy" between him and Gaga when recording the song: "In the beginning, it is kind of a trial run [with a new collaborator]. It felt a little bit like she was feeling me out, trying to figure out where I was coming from when it came to production. But then there was kind of a breakthrough moment — I had been working through something over my headphones, and when I played it out loud, she was just like, 'Oh my God, Cirkut, that’s crazy.' And as soon as that happened it was like, 'Great, I got through to her.' " Cirkut teased the possibility that there's more to come of their collaboration: "['Disease'] was just one song in a collection that we worked on together, but fairly early in the process, we all loved it and knew that it would be some kind of cornerstone of this body of work." Why Gaga stands out among her contemporaries: Cirkut said Gaga's passion and interest in the sonics of her music separates her from the pack. "She would say, 'Maybe try a different drum here,' or she would hop on the synths and start playing things. She’s a musician and a visionary, and she knew all about the attack, decay, sustain and release settings on a synth. She is all about the details, which definitely sets her apart from a lot of artists." "Also, the passion that she puts into her work is amazing. She really lives and breathes and eats and sweats and bleeds this music." You can read the full interview here.
