Lady Gaga made an appearance on First We Feasts' "Hot Ones", hosted by Sean Evans. The famous spicy chicken wing challenge navigates Gaga's early career, production and music.
The episode, released on February 13, starts with Gaga speaking about the traits she looks for in music producers following the announcement of her seventh studio album MAYHEM. "Collaboration is super important, childhood spirit and musician ship... Wherever the music is, I'm about it."
The 14-time Grammy Award winner spoke to Evans on writing 'Born This Way' in 10 minutes, where Gaga explains that for a lot of her songs, she hears them very quickly and just follows the sound. "It's a feeling of receiving." Gaga also credits her fans and audience in recognizing a good chorus. "Sometimes I know something's [the chorus] done cause that image feels whole to me, but you really don't know if something is good until the people tell you, and they will tell you."
Midway through the spicy chicken wing challenge, the questions are kicked up a notch. Evans asks Gaga to reflect on her early-career and on-stage memories of performing on the lower east side of New York City. "I remember when me and Lady Starlight were given a residency at the Slipper Room and I was so excited, it was such an honour to be asked to perform there. I remember made my outfit for my Slipper Room show, I sowed it myself. I just look back at that time so fondly" she said.
Evans appreciates Gaga's ability to balance high art and pop, Gaga responds "The music is something that you hear but when you add the art to it, it really changes the way you feel and changes the way you think about the song. It's awesome."
Gaga ends the interview explaining that she always felt tested when facing whether or not she should walk away. "I'm still doing it, so it must mean I wanna do it."

When asked about being the latest addition to the Haus of Gaga team, Parris responded:
"...when her team reached out and I got to meet her and listen to her album and she welcomed me into her world, I just couldn't believe it. She has inspired me so much, and I think just as a woman, she knows no boundaries, and that, for me, is how I approach my artistry. Now, being a part of her world, it's really the coolest shit I've ever done."
Delving further into the creation of the "Abracadabra" music video, she added:
"This project explores different sides of Gaga and how they coexist in her life. Everything is very theatrical... From the styling to the casting to the set, how we design the club, to the lighting, everything just matters. You're creating a whole world from scratch. Everything was just done so delicately and meticulously and I got to bring on dancers that I've admired for years. Parris also discussed the rehearsals and the process behind the making of the video:
"We were prepping, oh my goodness, maybe for about three weeks in total. ... But the shoot was two days long and was really demanding for everyone. You can see they're dancing from top to bottom, and we're doing take after take after take, but you can feel that hard work through the video. ... We should just build our own club. I think it's going to have such a different feel to actually be in this space. If we’re going to have 50, 60 dancers in the room, I think it's going to inspire everyone to really get lost in this world if we actually build the set out and make it feel like we're transporting everyone to a different dimension."
Speaking about the many hidden details in the already viral music video and what fans can expect from the Mayhem era, Parris said:

In the interview, Gaga breaks down the inspiration for the video's costumes, choreography, and her upcoming studio album MAYHEM, out March 7.
Talking about the choreography for the "Abracadabra" video:
"Parris and I worked really closely together, she's just a total genius. We did the video for Disease together and then we had a conversation about continuing that inner dialogue idea. It is part of Mayhem - these conflicting side of ourselves that don't really make sense but are just continuing to have this argument. How do we say that through dance? We ultimately decided that the video should be Mayhem the character, the lady in red - it's her club, and it's her night and she's saying, 'Okay, everybody that's here with us, we've done this before. And, tonight, you only have two choices, you can either dance or it's over. And I'm out.' And we decided we wanted the video to be about being up for that challenge. And so then Parris went to work for many weeks on all the different choreography. And we were constantly back and forth about it and then I went into the studio to learn it all. That was an amazing time. What I love is that the movement also expresses so much of what I'm trying to say and on a first listen of Abracadabra, you might go 'What is this about? It's fun to listen to, but what does it all mean?' And to me, when you see the video it should become clearer that it just means we have to keep going."
Talking about the "Lady in Red":
"The lady in red is all of you that puts you to the test. Your internal monologue. 'Can you do it? Can you do it? Will you do it? Are you good enough? Can you handle it?' In a lot of ways, the song is about dealing with that challenge to yourself and very often the world around us can reflect it back to us as well. I wanted to explore the question, 'What does it feel like to thrive and not just be surviving all the time? To me, in this video, she initiates the challenge and this purer side of me that is peering up at all of the negative backtalk, all of the doubt, and facing all that side of me, she completely comes through. And she says, 'I'm up for the challenge.' And it's interesting because we had all these different ways that we thought about the video ending and ultimately I wanted this song to be about resilience in a way the song Disease was not. That track was about inner torture and being trapped."
Talking about the costumes for the "Abracadabra" video:
"Something that was important to me was in a video of this size that we were also environmentally conscious to not overproduce and make too many new things. So actually my main white cape in the video was upcycled using old wedding dresses. And we also used deadstock fabric for the dancer's clothes. That's fabric that's been in warehouses for long periods of time. And we also used pieces from my archive; so old costumes are reinterpreted. There were a few new pieces. But we were trying to make something that was in the spirit of love the whole way through, something that was made with a really warm heart and community in mind."
Talking about the title of her new album:
"The album was called Mayhem to memorialize a piece of me and a piece of life that is not always easy to accept. It was hard at first to name the album Mayhem because I so much don't want that feeling to be real. I am also a hopeful person. I'm also somebody that is a dreamer, but what I think I ultimately arrived at is; it's all of the fractures of who we are and the fractures in the world and the mayhem of that brokenness that ultimately teaches us the power of joy, and dancing and crying and laughing and listening to music and holding your friends and your family and repeat! This album is fun and I enjoyed the contrast of a fun album that's also called Mayhem."
Talking about the musical inspirations for MAYHEM:
"There was industrial inspiration with a lot of the sounds. There's as transitional moment on the album that's rooted in nineties music. A sort of electro grunge defiance. That era in music which was a response to the music that came before it. And then David Bowie theatrical rock, Prince, Radiohead. I was inspired by so much music that has grown roots in my veins."

In a video posted to TikTok, Lady Gaga and "Abracadabra" music video choreographer Parris Goebel revealed a competition to give fans a chance to be part of a special fan version of the music video. Fans are encouraged to film their favorite part of the choreography and submit dance videos with the hashtag #MastercardGagaContest for a chance to be featured in a new fan version of the video.

She feels like fans would have really liked it if "Government Hooker" had been a single: "But, you know, they can't always get what they want."

It's kind of like being an explorer, but you don't really want to find anything."

While she didn't think any would fly under the radar, she mentioned the rollout for "Disease," which was first teased with a Spotify playlist that spelled the song's name, which in turn led to a rabbit hole down different websites: "The whole time that that was happening I just was like, 'Do they know now? Do they know now?'"
She mentioned that she loves seeing fans dissect what things mean. She said sometimes, when she's creating, she puts stories into her work and doesn't even notice she's doing it. That's where the fans come in: "Sometimes they're juts so dead-on, and other times they'll find meaning in it that I didn't even know was there."
What advice "Mayhem" would give to "The Fame":
Gaga answered with, "not to be so hard on herself all the time."
She recounted feeling like she had already made it when she released "The Fame," when she would make her own costumes from clothing at vintage shops and perform in New York City: "That was some of the most beautiful times in my life, and then everything that happened after was pretty wild. And, yeah, I can't believe I'm still doing it."

How she'd describe the recording process for "Mayhem":
Gaga said the recording process was about the songs, first and foremost: "It was extremely organic, and it was all about the songs. I wrote so many songs and spent a lot of time crafting and honing each one of them in. Over time, the production started to take form, and I started to produce them in more intricate ways."
What exploring "the art of intensity" for "Mayhem" entailed:
As an artist who works in extremes and pushes herself to the limit one way or another, Gaga said she wanted to explore why she works that way: "What I found is that the harder the music was, the more fragile the lyrics became. So there’s something that I experience as a human being that is like vulnerability and toughness at the same time."
What kind of healing power music has:
Other than her fiancé and family, Gaga said nothing makes her happier than music: "It always makes me feel just really grounded and centered and oddly in control of the outcome. It’s a really chaotic process making music, but you have to rely on yourself, and I can’t rely on everyone around me when I make a song. I really have to listen to what my heart’s saying."
Given her nearly 20 years in the music industry, Gaga called it a blessing that she still loves writing and producing more than anything else: "The art of fame and my love of performing, all of those things are things that i got to explore along the way, but there’s just nothing like being in a studio by yourself and pressing record. It’s pretty cool."
What lessons fans can take from "Mayhem" that haven't been explored in previous albums:
"Mayhem" is completely about "the art of chaos": "It means if something gets too fast you have to figure out how to reign it in. if something is becoming mundane you have to add velocity."
While she said pop music doesn't have to be super deep to be fun and effective, Gaga confirmed "Mayhem" has a lot of depth to it: "When the lyrics are more honest, then you have to be that honest with the sounds, and there were some moments making this record where I really surprised myself."
She continued, "'Disease,' in a way, is so relentless the whole time that you have to have vulnerability in the lyrics. Otherwise, it will just be, to me, kind of boneheaded and dumb and boring, so you have to create wind when it’s raining rocks."

The 15th track is an extra bonus song on some physical releases of the album.
In a press statement, Gaga described the album's writing process as “reassembling a shattered mirror."
“The album began with me confronting my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved," she wrote. "Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can still create something beautiful and whole in its own unique way.”
An official billboard appeared in Times Square with the announcement earlier this morning.
The lead-up to the album's announcement started last week, when a mysterious countdown appeared on Gaga's official website. Upon scrubbing the screen, "LG1" appeared behind the site's background, in the signature font of "The Fame" era.
The next day, the site's appearance changed, ditching the hazy blue background for a flowing black one. This time, scrubbing the screen revealed "LG2," in the font from "The Fame Monster" album cover. This continued until Monday, January 27, when "Mayhem" was officially announced.
Gaga first teased her return at the end of the "GAGA Chromatica Ball" concert special in May, when a brief snippet of new music played beside the words "GAGA RETURNS."
After teasing two new snippets following her performance at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Gaga released "Disease," the lead single, on Oct. 25, 2024.
In December, Gaga told the Los Angeles Times that "Die With a Smile," her Hot 100-topping collaboration with Bruno Mars, will be included on "Mayhem." The song has already exceeded 1 billion streams on Spotify.

The event, which will be live-streamed, is expected to raise millions for disaster relief for the victims from the wildfires that devastated Southern California earlier this month.
Other acts including Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gracie Abrams, and Green Day have been confirmed by TMZ as performers. Two dozen more acts are expected to be announced for the two concerts that will take place at the end of the month.
Tickets will go on sale on January 22nd at 12pm PST on Ticketmaster.

The free show, titled "Lady Gaga Todo Mundo no Rio" (Lady Gaga: The Whole World in Rio), will take place on Copacabana Beach on Saturday, May 3rd at 21:00. For the occasion, an area of 28,000 square meters will be used for the concert, which is expected to be one of the most attended in history, with over 1 million fans anticipated.
