Lady Gaga joined Dress To Impress on August 23 to hold a virtual meet and greet and Q&A with fans. Fans were able to submit questions ahead of the event. Key moments from the Q&A are below.
Lady Gaga teased lyrics to her upcoming song “Dead Dance” right as the event began:
“TOTAL MAYHEM in here, who is excited for THE DEAD DANCE.”
“You’ve created a creature of the night, now I’m haunting your air, your soul, your eyes.”
Lady Gaga answered questions about creating her albums ‘ARTPOP’ and ‘MAYHEM’:
“ARTPOP was new musical territory for me going full EDM so it was a major learning experience musically (which was fun but also hard). Figuring out how to fit live instruments in with the hard beats was interesting. I was not in a good place mentally when I made it though so it made finishing it a challenge.”
“MAYHEM was made the happiest I’ve ever been. That was hard because I decided to challenge myself musically with genres I know well. I sang my heart out and tried every production move to make it the best it could be. The songs are hard to sing; They’re all really high, I have to train like crazy for MAYHEM Ball.”
Lady Gaga added that ‘Born This Way’ is her favorite album she’s made:
“I sort of said Born This Way—I said that on stage last night. It was really inspired by my home NY—which is where I found my artistic community and made the friends that cheered me on when I became Lady Gaga. Plus the message is meaningful to me. Also WHO doesn’t need some NY electro-clash, techno rock in their life?”
Lady Gaga also took questions about her favorite outfits and fashion icons:
“It’s not just an outfit it’s my uniform. My pleaser black Monster Ball boots are SO special to me. I have performed for millions of monsters around the world in them. They have carried me far even when I felt like I couldn’t carry myself. I still have them! I wore them at Coachella!”
“I was inspired by rockstars my whole career—David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Blondie, Madonna, Prince, so so many. Grace Jones made me want to have as much fun as possible with fashion. Also I was just always inspired by designers and they became my friends so I just wanted to wear their clothes!! McQueen probably inspired my career the most.”
At the end of the event, users were able to collect special event badges and a spiked hat item.
