The New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) is an American film critic organization founded in 1935. The NYFCC Awards are the oldest given by film critics in the USA, and one of the most prestigious. NYFCC Awards ceremony is held every December, viewed as a kick-starter of the upcoming Awards Season, finishing with the Academy Awards, scheduled for March 2022.
The Circle’s membership includes critics from daily newspapers, weekly newspapers, magazines, and qualifying online general-interest publications. NYFCC Awards honor aesthetic merit in a forum that is immune to commercial and political pressures.
Along with Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the National Society of Film Critics, the NYFCC is known for its highbrow taste. Its annual awards are one of the more prestigious film critics awards and are often viewed as harbingers of Oscar nominations.
