The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) hosted their 2020 Virtual Fundraising Event on Monday, November 23rd.
Lady Gaga took part in the event in order to honour her late aunt, Joanne Germanotta, who passed away at just 19 years old while battling the disease.
The special tribute performance was a never-before-seen HQ video of Lady Gaga performing Grammy-winning "Joanne" during the Joanne World Tour. Before the performance aired, the LRA shared the following statement:
"In 2017, Lady Gaga wrote an entire album dedicated to and about her family and named after her late aunt. The title song, Joanne, tells the story that Gaga imagined young Joe would be saying to his sister as she was suffering and dying from Lupus.
The song was a critical and commercial hit, winning a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance and becoming a fan favorite.
To celebrate Joanne and her fight with Lupus, we are pleased to premiere this never before shared performance of Lady Gaga singing the song during her Joanne World Tour.
Every night, she told the story of Joanne and her struggle with the disease, educating hundreds of thousands of fans about Lupus along the way."
