Ten years ago, Lady Gaga and fashion photographer and founder/director of SHOWStudio, Nick Knight, created the concept of Jo Calderone for Vogue Japan. The Haus of Gaga would continue to tease the true identity of Calderone until his introduction to the world at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
Knight celebrated the anniversary of this creation by going behind the scenes with this exclusive fashion video and many never-seen before pictures from the set.
"@ladygaga's alter-ego Joe Calderone made their first public appearance in my editorial under the working title ‘Elegant Mechanics’ in 2010, wearing the likes of @emporioarmani, @prada and @givenchyofficial.⠀

Filmed in the infamous black basement room in the Bruton Place SHOWstudio in London’s Mayfair Gaga wanted to give a 100% authentic performance as a man . As part of this we set up a gentleman’s urinal complète with plumbing, which Joe Calderone used during the film .
Gaga later signed the white urinal and it still has pride of place at the current SHOWstudio. This is the first time this fashion film has appeared online. Previously only showcased in the basement of SHOWstudio's old premises at Bruton Place, we projected it on the very wall against which it was shot .The film was made while shooting Gaga/Calderone for @voguejapan, and when Gaga’s P.A showed up on set, she stood unaware next to Joe Calderon and looking increasingly worried, she asked- where is Gaga? Has anyone seen Gaga ????"
