Hello everyone! Welcome to the LGBTQ+ films and series recommendation thread!

Since it's Pride Month I thought we could share some of our favorite LGBTQ+ films and series.

At this time I want to share with you two movies and two tv series!

MOVIES

rafiki-3.png

Rafiki (2018): is a Kenyan drama and follows a story of romance that grows between two young women, Kena and Ziki, amidst family and political pressures around LGBTQ+ rights in Kenya.

Performances on point, meaningful plot and great cinematography. It's also directed by a queer black woman. The movie was banned in Kenya.

Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho (2014): "The Way He Looks" is a Brazilian coming-of-age drama that follows the story of Leonardo "a blind teenager searching for independence. His everyday life, the relationship with his best friend, Giovana, and the way he sees the world change completely with the arrival of Gabriel.

It's just perfect.

TV SERIES

picture_pc_b7159d50992eea88d6b4c2d99d1d9b92.jpeg?width=800

I Told Sunset About You (2020): is a Thai mini-series that follows the relationship of Teh and Oh-aew, who used to be childhood best friends but had a falling out and have not spoken for several years. Now in their final year of school, they meet again at a Chinese-language tutoring school as they prepare for university admissions. Starting out as rivals, they eventually make up and begin rebuilding their relationship as Teh helps tutor Oh-aew for their upcoming Chinese exam. They grow closer, forming a new bond that begins to extend beyond friendship but also tests their relationship as Teh struggles to understand and deal with his feelings.

Info: this "first part" or first season consist of 5 episodes. There's also a short film and a "second part" currently airing.

It's a MUST WATCH, great plot, great performances and the cinematogrpahy is breathtaking.

Theory of Love (2019): this a Thai romantic comedy series that follows the story of a third year film student Third who has feelings for his friend Khai for three years with a result of painful unrequited love. Third decides to stop his feelings no matter how difficult it may be. But when Third decides to move on, Khai incidentally realizes that he also has feelings for Third.

ATTENTION: this series falls into what is called "boys love" genre so if you're new to this genre you may find it strange or weird at first. Most of times in boys love productions the whole universe changes to an idealized one, like how it should be and not a true representation of reality.

That said this show is a GREAT one, it's fun, and cute, and if you like romantic comedies WATCH IT. There's a big chance your favorite rom-com gets referenced in it. In fact, every episode poster (posters in spoiler) is a recreation of a known rom-com. Sister A Star Is Born makes a carneo.

It's on YouTube with subs in english, portuguese, spanish and more:

The Prom on Netflix is definitely a film I'd recommend.

Glee is also a very good series when it comes to LGBTQIA+ inclusivity and has at least 8 LGBTQIA+ characters that I can think of off the top of my head, as well as many allies to the community. It's also available on Netflix.

And although Mamma Mia (2008) (‼️spoiler alert‼️) isn't particularly known for being an LGBTQIA+ film, one of the main characters turns out to be gay in the end and falls in love with one of the background characters towards the end of the film. It's one of my all-time favourite movies - I'd definitely give it a watch if I were you - especially if you're a fan of ABBA and/or Meryl Streep! It's currently available on Netflix in some regions or you can buy/rent it on YouTube or you can buy it on DVD.

You guys need to watch "La Veneno" on HBO Max. It's so good, excellent direction and production. The acting is also amazing, the story itself it's powerful, heartbreaking and it shows the struggle a lot of trans people go through. Watch it, you won't regret it.

Hey, you probably know the shows I'm gonna list but just in case lol

The L word and the L word Q Generation , who are really focused about the LGBTQ+ life, but its mostly about womans life.

Sense 8,  it's a bit strange but i think it's worth it lol

The fosters , this show is one of my favourite , not only about LGBTQ+ community but also about a broken system for foster kids and also about racism and adoption,  this show is really about kindness and tolerance I highly recommend.

I cant think about something else now but I will think about it lol

Hay guys! How you been?

I'm here to update with some content I've watched lately!

YOUNG ROYALS (2021)

Young Royals: Explicamos o final da 1ª temporada na Netflix

Swedish Mini-series of 6 episodes.

"An elite boarding school welcomes Prince Wilhelm, the heir to the Swedish throne, as a new student, forcing the troubled young prince to struggle against his family's legacy while navigating the complexities of adolescence."

I believe this series is a game changer in many aspects but mostly on how young gay boys can have a queer Prince tale to watch and picture thhemselves at! I wish I had this when I was younger.

Please watch it, you can find it on Netflix and remember for a show to be renewed it isn't about quantity but quality time, this means Netflix cares more about how much time you spend watching than how many people watch it. This is an advice for every show: watch at least 3 episodes.

Good and believable setting. Not the most original story but a great one with good written characters. Great production design and music.

another shot before we kiss the otherside!
