Along with VHS and vinyl the Polaroid instant camera seemed destined for the scrap heap. With the rise of digital photography the self-developing film became irrelevant and outdated. But three years after the last Polaroid camera was made, it has been pulled from the brink of extinction.

Yesterday the Polaroid Corporation launched the Polaroid 300 – the new generation of instant camera. The move defies all predictions about the future of photography and proves the enduring love for the iconic brand. The Polaroid 300 bears some resemblance to older models but it has undergone a face-lift. Lady Gaga was appointed creative director in a bid to ensure the camera’s retro chic appeals to a younger generation as well as its mass army of former fans.

We’ve just added two new pictures from a never seen before photoshoot of Lady GaGa taken by Marco Grob for Time 100 Magazine. Check also the related article and video!

I first heard the name Lady Gaga through a mutual friend. He couldn’t stop talking about her. Then I heard her music, and I thought, Wow, I love this kid. An artist’s job is to take a snapshot — be it through words or sound, lyrics or song — that explains what it’s like to be alive at that time. Lady Gaga’s art captures the period we’re in right now. These days, you go to a club and wonder who all these kids are. They don’t seem to have jobs. How can they afford to be here? Her song “Beautiful, Dirty, Rich” explains that scene. It’s about the New York prep-school party kids she grew up with. It’s where she came from. Gaga’s lyrics are incredibly literary. When “Bad Romance” starts, the music grabs your ear immediately.

We’ve just added new Lady GaGa’s photos from 2007. The first ones are from Beauty Bar and the second ones from Club Royale, both in New York. Radaronline says the guy is Rob Fusari, but probably it’s Luc Carl. The last one is a photo before The Fame came out.

After a five-year losing streak, British music revenues are finally on the rise and made £928.8 million last year.

This was a 1.4 per cent increase on 2008, according to music industry body the BPI. Online downloads and mobile services rocketed 47.8 per cent to £188.9 million, accounting for around a fifth of the total.

CD album sales continued to drop by 6.1 per cent though, despite major releases from comeback artists like Robbie Williams.

Geoff Taylor, BPI chief executive, told the media: ”It’s encouraging to see industry revenues stabilise and even show modest growth in 2009.

”The CD continues to show greater resilience than many predicted – it is an excellent digital product. The pace of growth of new digital services is encouraging, but the size of the market continues to be constrained by competition from illegal downloads.”

Lollapalooza founder and Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell has commissioned a custom-built set for Lady GaGa when she takes the stage in Chicago’s Grant Park at the music festival — for a whopping $150,000!

He says:

“We’re bringing in a special stage for her, investing like a hundred grand to house what she’s doing. That’s massive. Only Lady GaGa could step in and say ‘I’m a headliner.’”

Sounds amazing!
